"Just Makeup" Lee Hyori took on the role of MC for a survival variety show for the first time in 16 years.
On the 1st, a press conference for Coupang Play's new variety program "Just Makeup" was held at the Pullman Ambassador Seoul Eastpol in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. PDs Shim Woo-jin and Park Sung-hwan and singer Lee Hyori, Jung Saem-mool, Risabae, Seo Ok, and Lee Jin-soo attended the event.
"Just Makeup" is a massive makeup survival show in which makeup artists who represent K-beauty compete fiercely with their own distinct styles, representing K-beauty not only in Korea but globally. From the first-generation makeup masters in Korea to beauty creators, a total of 60 makeup artists representing each field will compete for a single throne purely on skill, raising expectations for a K-beauty sensation.
Joining as judges are Jung Saem-mool, Seo Ok, Risabae, and Lee Jin-soo, who lead K-beauty trends. They will evaluate the participants' makeup and convey the evolution and philosophy of K-beauty with tension.
K-beauty, which is attracting global attention, will be presented as a massive survival show. Beauty icon Lee Hyori participates as MC, raising expectations. Lee Hyori said she felt it had been about five to 10 years since she stood in front of reporters. With so many flashes going off, many old memories came back. She had forgotten but now remembers again.
Lee Hyori, who took on the role of MC for a survival program for the first time in 16 years, said she had often hosted variety shows naturally without a script, but because she was hosting a survival program this time she had to follow the script precisely. It was not as easy as she thought. She said she has the ability to gauge wit and flow and can make things interesting in the moment, but it was not easy to deliver exact lines and hit the points. Nevertheless, because the field of makeup felt like a friend to her, she had great interest. She even offered to be the MC herself, and because the production company has continued its connection through Hyori's Homestay, she joined the project. She said that having lived as a celebrity who receives makeup, watching these people compete made her feel touched and taught her things she did not know. Personally, she felt she had an enjoyable time.
Lee Hyori added that she has tried so many looks that there is virtually no makeup she hasn't done. She said she has received makeup from more than half of the participants. Rather than wanting to do something new herself, she wants to be in a position to support them. She very much hopes that the people working hard behind the scenes will get recognition.
Lee Hyori said she referred to Jun Hyun-moo and Kim Sung-joo. Because she had never done that style of MC, she studied when they push the momentum and when they give points.
Coupang Play's massive K-beauty survival show "Just Makeup" will be released for the first time on the 3rd at 8 p.m.
