"segiui b-yuti aikon" singer Lee Hyori appeared at an official event for the first time in a while, displaying her unchanged charisma and unique presence. Lee Hyori, who will serve as the MC of Coupang Play's new variety show "Just Makeup," which depicts the fierce survival competition among domestic makeup artists, hinted at a new role as a "supporter" along with her deep affection for K-beauty.
1st a production presentation for Coupang Play's new variety show "Just Makeup" was held at Pullman Ambassador Seoul Eastpole in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. In attendance were PD Shim Woo-jin, PD Park Seong-hwan and singers Lee Hyori, Jung Saem-mool, Lee Sa-bae, Seo Ok and Lee Jin-soo.
Lee Hyori said, "It feels like it's been about five to 10 years since I stood in front of reporters. With so many flashes going off, many old memories come to mind," expressing her feelings at facing the press after a long time.
Although she has not completely stayed away from variety shows, it has been 16 years since Lee Hyori has taken on the role of MC for a survival program. PD Shim Woo-jin emphasized Lee Hyori's symbolic status regarding her recruitment, saying, "You can't talk about K-beauty without Lee Hyori." Shim PD, who said Lee Hyori readily accepted the offer, expressed complete trust, saying, "If we do a season 2, I definitely want to recruit Lee Hyori again."
There was a special sincerity behind Lee Hyori taking on the role of MC for a survival program after 16 years. Lee Hyori said her strong interest in the field of makeup was such that "I even offered first, saying I wanted to be the MC." She especially said she wanted the artists who quietly work hard behind the scenes to receive the spotlight, and that she would take on the role of a "helper" aiding the growth of K-beauty, moving from the position of a celebrity receiving makeup to one supporting that growth.
The challenge of being an MC, rather than a player active in variety shows, was not easy for Lee Hyori. She complained that, due to the nature of survival shows, it was not easy to proceed by following a script and said she referenced Jun Hyun-moo and Kim Seong-ju. Responding to criticism that makeup is not universal content, she confidently said, "People may think makeup is a women's domain, but after filming, it's not just about makeup; it contains life stories, so it will be a program anyone can watch."
