A doyenne of historical dramas, distinguished actor Kim Ju-young has left us. He was 73.
According to the broadcasting industry, the late Kim Ju-young, who had weakened lungs from having had pulmonary tuberculosis when he was young, recently battled pneumonia and died on the 30th of last month.
Kim Ju-young graduated from Chung-Ang University's Department of Theater and Film, debuted in 1974 as part of MBC's sixth open recruitment of actors, and later also passed the Tongyang Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) 15th open recruitment, making his presence known on home screens.

Through 'Supervisor of Investigation' he made his mark on the public, and later he left a deep impression in many epic historical dramas. From the "The Dynasty of Joseon 500 Years" series to "Tears of the Dragon," "The King and the Queen," "Taejo Wang Geon," "Empress Myeongseong," "The Age of Warriors," "The Great Sea," "The Moon Embracing the Sun," and "Jeong Do-jeon," he shone as a heavyweight presence and a living testament to period and historical dramas.
Then, after an eight-year hiatus, news that he had received a shamanic calling surprised the public.
On Jan. 13 last year, Kim Ju-young appeared on MBN's 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi' and confessed, "After 50 years of acting I became a shaman."
He added, "The moment my eyes met the girl's, I was stunned and lost my mind. I couldn't sleep that night," and said, "The next day after filming I was about to get on the bus and she was in front of the bus. Only I could see her. I couldn't tell my colleagues, and she constantly tormented my mind. After the drama 'Jeong Do-jeon' ended my body suddenly hurt terribly. My lungs pressed on my heart and I couldn't breathe," revealing he underwent lung surgery.
Ultimately Kim Ju-young confessed, "I discussed it with my wife and son. My son said isn't that better than dying? So let's live for now. So I enshrined a spirit," and Sunwoo Eun-sook asked, "Won't you act?" Kim Ju-young replied, "I want to act until I die." In 2023 on MBN's current affairs and culture program 'Exclusive World' he also showed his passion for acting, saying that even as a shaman he dreamed of the life of an actor.
This remarkable life story of the late figure has been retold, and waves of mourning have followed online and offline.
