Former soccer player Lee Dong-gook's daughter Jae-a won a golf tournament.
On the 1st, Lee Dong-gook's wife, Lee Su-jin, shared a video of their daughter Jae-a's victory on her social account. In the video, after winning the junior golf tournament, Jae-a said, "I'm so happy to be able to win. I thank Bumin Hospital for hosting this tournament and my family who cheered hard from far away on the mainland. I also thank Aunt Yoon-ji, and I want to say they all worked so hard today even though it must have been tough" she said.
Watching her daughter's victory, Lee Su-jin recalled the difficult times, saying, "After three major surgeries, when she gave up tennis and the path she had chased for 10 years seemed to stop, there was a dark time when Jae-a thought everything was over. Jae-a cried in her room for days and nights. I couldn't say anything by her side and cried inside with her. I deliberately immersed myself more busily in work and endured each day, waiting for time to dull the pain."
She continued, "Then she found the courage to reach for a golf club toward another dream. Even though she didn't show great interest, as always, Jae-a quietly worked hard day by day. I never once told her to 'work harder' whether she was playing tennis or golf. Her fingertips were always cracked and her palms toughened, so I often told her, 'Stop and rest a bit.' Even after working so hard, for nearly two years since she picked up the golf club, Jae-a refused some tournaments and feared challenges, but this time she mustered the courage to go out on the course."
She said, "What I hoped for wasn't a birdie, a trophy or a win; I just wanted Jae-a to return to her original self who dreamed big and challenged fearlessly. Then Jae-a finished with a birdie on the 17th hole and a long-putt birdie on the 18th to secure the victory. At that moment, tears unexpectedly welled up in my eyes," expressing how moved she was by the precious result.
She added, "This victory means more than a trophy. It helped Jae-a regain confidence and became a starting point toward a new dream. I record this moment with gratitude and humility," and she also expressed thanks to those who supported the tournament, saying, "Thank you to everyone who worked hard for the competition."
Meanwhile, Lee Dong-gook married Lee Su-jin in 2005 and they have children Jaeshi and Jae-a, twins Seol-a and Su-a, and a son Sian. In particular, Jae-a was active as a tennis player but received much support after transitioning to golf following an injury.
