Korea's symbol of comedy, 'Gag Concert', surpassed 1 million subscribers on its YouTube channel. 'Gag Concert' is a legacy for which the late Jeon Yu-seong, who died on the 25th, played the leading role in its creation, and it was also the site where a memorial rite (NO:ZE) was held after the funeral on the 28th.
KBS2's 'Gag Concert' said on the 30th that "the 'Gag Concert' official YouTube channel surpassed 1 million subscribers on the 27th." This is a record achieved in less than two years since broadcasts resumed in Nov. 2023, and as a single-program YouTube channel it secured 1 million subscribers in the shortest time and received the "Gold Play Button."
'Gag Concert' broke a roughly three-and-a-half-year hiatus and, after returning to viewers, has been actively using its YouTube channel. Immediately after each broadcast ended, full rewatch videos of each segment were provided on the YouTube channel, and uncensored full versions that included edits that could not be shown in TV scheduling were released. Consistently presenting shorts that reedited key scenes and drawing responses from mobile viewers were also cited as growth factors.
You can feel the national love for 'Gag Concert' through view counts as well. As of the 29th, the cumulative views on the 'Gag Concert' official YouTube channel are about 2.9 billion, with about 1.15 billion in 2024 alone, and about 1.65 billion views in nine months this year.
Among full-version corner videos, 'Defconn, how is it' recorded an all-time high of 2.8 million views, and this year the three-character episode 'Knowing song' recorded 1.28 million views and is holding the spot as the highest-viewed video. Among shorts, 'Why are you coming out here' — which deals with the reactions of restaurant owners when a villain actor ordered extra udon noodles at a restaurant — recorded an all-time high of 18.7 million views.
The 'Gag Concert' side plans to regularly present YouTube-only segments going forward. They plan to boldly release new segments on YouTube that were prepared for the main broadcast but could not be shown because of broadcast time or censorship issues, delivering more diverse and provocative laughter. These online-only content experiments are also expected to further strengthen the virtuous cycle between TV broadcasts and the YouTube channel.
The 'Gag Concert' production team said, "Thanks to the love of viewers, we reached 1 million YouTube subscribers," and said, "The production team and the performers will not wait for viewers in front of the TV; we will prepare more entertaining content and come to you directly, so please continue to support us."
Meanwhile, 'Gag Concert' airs on KBS2 at 10:45 p.m. on Sundays.
