YouTuber Shuka has again been embroiled in a broadcast controversy. This time, criticism arose that an Ilbe image was used during a live stream, prompting him to publish an apology himself and express his intention to donate.
On the 29th, Shuka said through the community section of his YouTube channel "Shuka World," "There was an unfortunate incident this week in which a maliciously manipulated image was broadcast," and "the image was so cleverly manipulated that our research team's first inspection and second inspection processes failed to detect the problem. I deeply apologize for causing discomfort as a result."
He added, "From now on we will appoint staff dedicated to inspections to establish a three-step inspection system and check more thoroughly," and promised, "As an expression of apology, I will donate 30 million won to the Korean Red Cross' campaign to help descendants of independence activists."
Shuka had previously been embroiled in broadcast controversies several times. Last year he was criticized for allegedly supporting past martial law in a particular broadcast, and in another piece of content he even used a map labeled "Sea of Japan," which enraged viewers.
At the time he also said, "It was a mistake that occurred because I used Japanese source materials; it is 100% my fault. Even though I had prechecked it, the accident happened when I replaced it with a more visually appealing map just before the broadcast. This mistake is something I find hard to forgive in myself, and I sincerely apologize for causing concern to many people. The East Sea is the East Sea, and Dokdo is of course our land. With a spirit of apology, I will immediately donate 30 million won to the Korean Red Cross' "helping descendants of independence activists" campaign," he said.
However, with the Ilbe image incident following this, further controversy has ensued around Shuka World. Netizens are pouring out criticism over Shuka World's repeated mistakes.
Meanwhile, Shuka is an economics-focused creator and a popular YouTuber with 3.6 million subscribers. He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in economics and worked at Samsung Asset Management as a bond prop trader and fund manager. He has appeared on various entertainment programs such as SBS "Money Worrier School 2," KakaoTV "Ants Are Plump Today Too," KBS1 "Issue Pick, with Teacher," and WAVVE "Game of Blood," which raised his public profile.<
