Attorney Ko Sang-rok checked the truth and falsehoods regarding actor Kim Soo-hyun and the late Kim Sae-ron's alleged relationship when she was a minor.
On the 30th, Attorney Ko Sang-rok wrote on his blog, "I was recently appointed as Kim Soo-hyun's representative and received all the materials. I saw a diary Kim Soo-hyun kept during his military service; it starts with notes about trivial daily life and then records about a lover. There are materials showing that he would bring that diary-style letter out on every leave, show it to his lover and interact with her," and conveyed the position that the late Kim Sae-ron was not his lover during his military service.
Attorney Ko Sang-rok claimed that all the published photos and objective materials consistently show the two people's relationship began in the summer of 2019 and ended the following spring. He pointed out that Kim Sae-ron was already a legal adult and a first-year university student at the time, and if, as some allege, they had dated for the long period of six years, it would be difficult to explain why there is not a single photo from other periods besides those taken after she became an adult.
He especially explained that the content of the postcard Kim Soo-hyun sent in November 2019 also uses typical expressions between people who had just started dating, such as "I will nag and pay attention from now on" and "Even if we fight, I will apologize first."
Regarding the controversy that the late Kim Sae-ron was a minor when they dated, he emphasized that there was another lover he was actually dating. According to Attorney Ko Sang-rok, Kim Soo-hyun maintained a relationship with that lover from 2016 until the spring of 2019.
He said that especially during his military service, from January 2018 to July 2019, there remain about 150 diary-style letters written thinking of his actual lover. Attorney Ko insisted, "These writings are full of sincere content, sharing daily life with the lover, conveying affectionate feelings, and envisioning a future together after discharge."
Attorney Ko went on to explain, "By contrast, there is only one letter sent to the late Kim Sae-ron during the same period, and it shows a clear difference in tone compared with letters sent to a lover." He drew a line, saying the letter sent to the late Kim Sae-ron was nothing more than an ordinary message to an acquaintance conveying small impressions of military life and determination as an actor, not an expression of romantic interest. Attorney Ko added, "It was confirmed that on the very day he sent the letter he separately wrote a diary expressing that he missed his actual lover."
Attorney Ko Sang-rok stressed, "The large volume of records the actor wrote to his actual lover throughout his military service is highly credible evidence proving that the claim he had an inappropriate relationship with a minor is false."
Currently, Kim Soo-hyun's side has launched legal action for defamation and damages against the bereaved family and YouTubers, escalating the legal battle, and the late Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family has filed a countersuit accusing Kim Soo-hyun of violating the Child Welfare Act and of false accusation, continuing the dispute over the truth.
