On the 30th, an interview with Park Gyu-young, an actress in the Netflix film The Mantis: Original Sin, was held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.
The Netflix film The Mantis: Original Sin, released on the 26th, is an action movie depicting the confrontation for the top spot between an A-list killer known as "The Mantis," who returned after a long vacation to a contract-killing world where all the rules have collapsed; his trainee, peer and rival "Jae-yi"; and the retired legendary killer "Dok-go."
Park Gyu-young, who plays the role of "Jae-yi," delivered high-intensity action. Regarding this, Park Gyu-young said that she had often shown warrior-like characters and that this role was the most combative, adding that she did action in earnest.
She continued, "Actually, I'm not someone who is naturally good at action. This time I wanted to show it properly. There are parts that can be filled by a stunt double, but I wanted to do as much as I could myself, so I diligently attended action school from the pre-production stage. I worked hard; I don't know how people will see it, but I did my best. I filmed each scene feeling like, 'scene by scene, day by day, my life is draining away,'" she said with a laugh.
In particular, Yim Siwan mentioned in an interview that Park Gyu-young showed stubborn grit during her practice. Regarding this, Yim Siwan said, "Doing your best and finishing what you can seems like the minimum effort. This is content that people make time for. For some, it might be a time to rest. Because it fills part of that time, I think at least that level of effort is necessary," showing humility.
When asked about experiencing inferiority as the second-in-command like 'Jae-yi,' she said, "Of course I never had the dangerous fantasy of fighting with real swords like Jae-yi. But I did once practice at the action school in the same time slot as senior Siwan. I'm the type who learns things one by one, so each move took a long time. But watching senior Siwan finish and leave in five minutes, I imagined, if Jae-yi took away Jaeul's intimacy, would the eternal second-in-command's feeling be like this?" she said, drawing attention.
