The agency for actor Kim Soo-hyun flatly denied allegations that the late Kim Sae-ron and he were romantically involved during his military service. The controversy entered a new phase after handwritten letters and a diary that Kim Soo-hyun allegedly sent to a real girlfriend were disclosed.
On the 30th, Go Sang-rok, attorney at the law firm Phil handling Kim Soo-hyun's criminal case, said, "After reviewing Kim Soo-hyun's military service records, we found numerous letters he sent to his girlfriend," and added, "judging from the contents, they are clearly distinguishable from his relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron."
According to attorney Go, after being assigned to his unit in 2018 Kim Soo-hyun wrote daily letter-style diary entries and shared them with his girlfriend during each leave. Those records amount to about 150 entries through spring 2019.

Attorney Go said, "Expressions like 'I love you' and 'I miss you' appear in the letters to his girlfriend, but the letters sent to the deceased only contained reflections on military life and comments about the weather," and stressed, "they were later confused with letters from the actual dating period and distorted to appear as if they had been dating since military service."
On April 6, 2018, Kim Soo-hyun expressed affection to his girlfriend, writing, "I really want to write your name... I love you," and on June 9 of the same year he wrote, "I love you too, today as well!" A July letter included, "This time next year I will travel with her. We'll do everything together." That passage envisions a concrete future with his girlfriend after discharge.
Attorney Go also said, "A photo the deceased posted then deleted on social media was taken when she was a college sophomore in 2020," and explained, "some of the publicly alleged composite photos were also taken between late 2019 and spring 2020, after the deceased had already become an adult."
He said, "All the materials support that the relationship between Kim Soo-hyun and the deceased began in the summer of 2019 and ended the following year," and added, "the November 2019 postcard was also sent to the deceased as an adult and contained ordinary phrases exchanged between a couple who had just begun dating."
In May, a recording file was released that contained claims the late Kim Sae-ron said she had dated Kim Soo-hyun since middle school. In response, Kim Soo-hyun's side said the recording file was completely fabricated and that Gold Medalist determined the recording was created using AI and other methods, and said they would take a strong stance against the false claims.
