YouTuber Tzuyang (28, Park Jeong-won), who has 12.5 million subscribers, confessed that she is battling retinitis pigmentosa.
On 29th, Tzuyang posted a video titled "Ordering xx ten-thousand won worth of food at a PC bang with 135 menu items" on her YouTube channel.
The video shows Tzuyang visiting a PC bang, ordering food, and playing games. When a staff member, who was playing a spot-the-difference game with her, asked, "Isn't that why your eyesight got worse?" Tzuyang said, "My eyesight has been like this since elementary school," adding, "But this isn't because of using a computer; it's because I have an incurable eye disease."
She continued, "People say, 'Why don't you get LASIK or LASEK? It's so convenient,' but I can't. It's retinitis pigmentosa, and I could go blind later."
Retinitis pigmentosa is a rare genetic disorder in which the light-sensing cells in the retina are gradually damaged, causing eyesight to deteriorate slowly. Major symptoms include night blindness, visual field constriction, and decreased vision, and while the progression varies greatly by individual, in severe cases it can lead to blindness.
