(continuing from interview ②) Actor Yim Siwan revealed his candid feelings toward "The Mantis: Original Sin".
On the 30th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, a Netflix film "The Mantis: Original Sin" interview with actor Yim Siwan was held.
Released on the 26th, the Netflix film "The Mantis: Original Sin" is an action movie that depicts the showdown between A-grade killer "The Mantis," who returned after a long vacation to a contract-killing industry where all the rules have collapsed, his trainee, peer and rival "Jae-yi," and retired legend killer "Dokgo" fighting for the top spot.
Yim Siwan gave a passionate performance as Han-ul in "The Mantis: Original Sin," and regarding his impressions after watching "The Mantis: Original Sin" that day, he said, "Whenever I watch my own work, I inevitably feel all attention focuses on me. The acting and the action I did. I always have the regret of 'Could I have done better?'" expressing his disappointment.
He continued, "There was a scene where I used wires. Actually, I tried to do it acrobatically without wires, but it was impossible to do in such a short time. But if there had been enough time, maybe I could have actually done the acrobatics without wires. That's my biggest regret," he admitted.
He said, "Those acrobatics were the kind that were also done on idol stages. Of course, I didn't do them myself; I saw other idol colleagues do them. Those kinds of things are, in fact, challenges worth taking despite the risks, I think. But it's an excuse, but there wasn't enough time to prepare. I did practice. I couldn't say, 'I'll do it without wires,' and not doing it is privately disappointing," he recalled.
Regarding the 'like-or-dislike' reactions to the work, he said, "I haven't really looked into that yet. I think it's a genre where such reactions are likely. It brings the world of 'Gil Bok-soon' as it is. I don't think the genre or the nature itself is a popular genre that embraces everyone," yet he candidly admitted about the film's completeness, "I think there's room for it to have come out better," drawing attention.
Yim Siwan said, "I think this work is especially action-driven among genres. If I were truly an actor who excelled and specialized in action more than anyone else. If I had been better prepared. With better-crafted action, I think I could have portrayed the emotional line and the narrative in a convincing way. But since this was my first attempt at action, I have a strong feeling of not being satisfied with myself."
