(Following interview ②) Actor Lee Chaemin shared her thoughts on working on a romance with Im Yoon-ah.
On the morning of the 30th at a cafe in Gangnam District, Seoul, a wrap-up interview was held with Lee Chaemin, the lead actor of the tvN weekend drama Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.
The series Bon Appetit, Your Majesty, based on the popular web novel Surviving as Yeonsangun's Chef, is a survival fantasy romantic comedy about a chef who time-slips to the past at the peak of their career and meets the worst tyrant and a king with absolute taste buds, leading to the ensuing story.
In the drama, Lee Chaemin plays Lee Heon, the Joseon monarch Yeonhee-gun, and shared a romantic rapport with Im Yoon-ah, who plays Yeon Ji-young. When asked about her feelings appearing opposite Girls' Generation's YoonA, Lee Chaemin said, I told her 'I'm a fan' the first time I met her. I saw someone I had seen when I was young in person, and it was an honor to be partners in the same work. It felt strange and I thought I just had to do well.
She added, At first, when I had little time to shape the character, I was anxious and lacked confidence, but the senior really gave me a lot of courage. She assured me I was doing well enough, and that gave me great strength early on. To be honest, working with her was so good. There was no conflict, she accepted a lot of what I wanted, and on the contrary she suggested ideas like 'How about trying it this way,' which was a great help, and I expressed my gratitude.
Although Lee Heon appears as one year older in the story, in reality Lee Chaemin is 10 years younger. She said, When acting with the senior, I don't think I noticed that age gap. When acting, we seemed to focus on each other as characters. After the cut, she was my senior and taught me many things, so she was someone I respected. I felt she was more of a senior and a person I could learn a lot from than the age difference, she said, expressing her respect.
Meanwhile, Lee Chaemin also played a childhood friend opposite Oh Eui-sik (playing Im Song-jae), who is 17 years older than her in real life. About this, Lee Chaemin said, At first it was a bit hard, but the senior approached me first. I was so grateful that she reached out, and we gradually became closer. On set we stuck together like close friends. Our team and the senior's team all hung out together, so I think the chemistry came out well toward the later episodes. (Continued in interview ④.)<
