Actor Kim Soo-hyun's side has directly refuted the late Kim Sae-ron's family's allegation of an "underage relationship," and as mention emerged of the "actual lover" he dated during his military service, public attention has turned to a third person.
Kim Soo-hyun's legal representative, lawyer Ko Sang-rok, said on the 29th on a YouTube channel that the claim that Kim Soo-hyun maintained a six-year romantic relationship with the deceased from when she was a minor "has no factual basis," and added that the two people's dating period was from late 2019 to spring of the following year, a time when the deceased had already become an adult. He also said, "During his military service, Kim Soo-hyun had an actual lover whom he dated from 2016 until spring 2019," presenting dozens of diary-style letters and call records as evidence.
The remark naturally heightened interest in the "third person," but Kim Soo-hyun's side is strictly protecting the person's identity. Lawyer Ko drew a line, saying, "That lover was the actual dating partner who had consistently exchanged contact with the actor from his military service until just before his discharge, and dated the deceased only briefly after she became an adult."
Some internet users reacted, "I have doubts about the claims made by the deceased's family," and "If there was a separate lover during military service, the underage relationship allegation loses force." But others urged restraint, saying, "We should respect the reason for mentioning the actual lover without revealing a name," and "Separate from the deceased's tragic situation, excessive speculation about Kim Soo-hyun's private life could cause secondary harm."
Kim Soo-hyun's side has filed a defamation complaint against the late Kim Sae-ron's family and a civil lawsuit seeking damages in the 12 billion won range. As the controversy shows no signs of dying down, voices among internet users calling for stopping reckless speculation until facts are clearly established are gaining strength.
With the existence of an "actual lover" during his military service becoming public, the case has entered a new phase, but commentators continue to warn that excessive curiosity should be avoided since even the name has not been mentioned.
