(Following interview ③) Actor Jung Kyung-ho emphasized the close bond with fellow actors Jo Woo-jin, Park Ji-hwan and Lee Kyu-hyung who worked with him on the film "Boss."
Jung Kyung-ho conducted an interview on the morning of the 29th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. At the event he spoke with domestic reporters about the upcoming film "Boss" (director Ra Hee-chan).
"Boss" is a comic action film that depicts the desperate battles of organization members who fiercely "yield" the boss position to each other for their own dreams ahead of the next boss election, which will determine the organization's future. In it, Jung Kyung-ho gives a passionate performance as Kang-pyo, a man who refuses to become the organization's boss and is obsessed with tango.
In the film, Jung Kyung-ho literally worked like "family" with Jo Woo-jin, Park Ji-hwan and Lee Kyu-hyung, who appear as family-faction members of the organization. He sparred with Soon-tae (played by Jo Woo-jin) and Pan-ho (played by Park Ji-hwan) over the mischievous fate shared by even Kang-pyo of not wanting to become boss, and his same-age friend Lee Kyu-hyung, who he previously worked with on the drama Seulgi-ro-un Gambbang-saenghwal, reunited as undercover police officer Tae-gyu who infiltrated the organization.
They were also the reason Jung Kyung-ho chose "Boss." He laughed, "The script itself was fun. Organization members saying they won't be boss and finding themselves, insisting they don't have to be boss," and explained his reason for appearing, saying, "Jo Woo-jin, Park Ji-hwan and my friend Kyu-hyung, there were so many senior actors that I really wanted to do it. I also wondered what would seem attractive within that."
He acknowledged the weakness of using the subject of a "gangster film" while also stressing, "After watching the film, I thought it was a very human family drama. Gangsters, thugs, those kinds of stories can be a subject, but I think it's a human family drama. I saw a somewhat warm atmosphere."
In particular, he laughed and said, "From the first proposal I accepted Kang-pyo. Woo-jin hyung and Ji-hwan hyung are such lively people, wild things, so I thought there would be a lot to gain working with them. Who you do a project with seems important. So far, anyway. I received a lot of help and gained energy."
He added, "I have a connection with Kyu-hyung from Seulgi-ro-un Gambbang-saenghwal. But we met on and off through various encounters. This was the first time we worked together on a project. Everyone was such good people, and I was the youngest, so everyone took me in well. The location was Busan. Being away from home and spending several months together, we ate three meals, four meals a day, and late-night snacks together like older brothers and slept, so I miss those times. I still miss them."
Jo Woo-jin has also shown extraordinary affection for the "Boss" members, even saying, "I love you." Jung Kyung-ho laughed, "He contacted me yesterday and today saying he loves me. He sent a message saying he's more excited about today's VIP screening." He expressed fondness, saying, "The four of us are really close. They are truly warm people. They are considerate men. Even on set they worry about whether they might inconvenience someone. I try to be considerate, but these hyungs are lovely people."
He said, "As the film opened, the three of us felt moved and emotional. It's been a while since we shot the film, but those memories were so good. The fact that it opens at Chuseok itself was an overwhelming well of emotion for the four of us. We decided to do more, and Woo-jin hyung suggested singing, so we sang and even shot a music video. Actually, we went through a lot, and the three, the four of us worried a lot about this project. So it's a work we feel even more attached to."
Therefore, regarding how he hoped audiences would view "Boss," Jung Kyung-ho emphasized, "Rather than watching it as Kang-pyo, I hope people see the warmth the film 'Boss' has. I hope they appreciate that. I ended the film with family love. I hope people see me as cute. I hope people see Kyu-hyung and me as cute."
"Boss" opens Oct. 3.
