SEVENTEEN's new special unit S.COUPS X Mingyu finally makes their official debut today (29th). They will release their mini 1st album 'HYPE VIBES' at 6 p.m. and begin activities with the title track '5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman) (feat. Lay Bankz)'.
S.COUPS X Mingyu said through their agency Pledis Entertainment, "We wanted to show an unadorned, honest and natural side. The process was correspondingly free," adding, "Through 'HYPE VIBES' you will be able to encounter our new possibilities and fresh colors."
The title track '5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman) (feat. Lay Bankz)' interpolates Roy Orbison's hit 'Oh, Pretty Woman' (interpolation is a technique that replays or re-records specific elements of existing music for new use). The lyrics candidly express the feeling of love toward someone who draws you in intensely, paired with a lively disco sound. S.COUPS X Mingyu participated in writing and composing all six tracks, including the title track, completing the new release with their tastes and sensibilities.
The two said, "Because this album is filled with the music we want to make, we were excited every time content was released," and added, "We hope you pick songs that fit your 'now' and fill your everyday life with hype moments. Please look forward to S.COUPS X Mingyu's various activities to come."
The reaction is already hot. The previously pre-released title challenge has easily surpassed 180 million views. The audio used in the video entered the Instagram Reels trending audio chart, and thousands of challenge videos of people copying their choreography have poured in. Various promotional contents, as well as behind-the-scenes videos that highlight S.COUPS X Mingyu's unpretentious charm, are also spreading on social media with millions of views.
S.COUPS X Mingyu will appear on Mnet's 'M Countdown' on the 2nd of next month to unveil their new stage for the first time. From tomorrow (30th), a pop-up commemorating the release of 'HYPE VIBES' will be held at The Corner on the 6th floor of HDC I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
