Actor Lee Jae-wook returned to KBS after five years with "Last Summer" and personally explained why he chose the project.
The new KBS 2TV Saturday-Sunday miniseries "Last Summer" (directed by Min Yeon-hong, written by Jeon Yu-ri), which premieres Nov. 1 at 9:20 p.m., is a remodeling romance drama in which a man and woman who have been friends since childhood confront the truth of their first love hidden in Pandora's box.
Lee Jae-wook meets viewers as Baek Do-ha, the head of the architectural firm "Pluto Atelier," an architect with outstanding skills. Do-ha returns to Patan-myeon, where his childhood friend Song Ha-kyung (played by Choi Seong-eun), from whom he became distant two years ago, lives, and becomes a figure who shakes up her daily life.
With curiosity about how Lee Jae-wook will portray Baek Do-ha, a character who has complex and subtle feelings toward Ha-kyung, whom he has been connected to since childhood, today (29th) Lee Jae-wook drew attention by offering sincere remarks about the project.
First, Lee Jae-wook explained his reason for choosing the project, saying, "Reading the script was psychologically very healing, and I felt a lot of warm energy. I thought I wanted to show the emotions I feel through this character."
Introducing Baek Do-ha as "an optimistic, bright, clear person who must seize what he wants to do and achieve what he aims for," Lee Jae-wook named the keywords that best describe the character as "initiative," "drive," and "delicacy." He added, "Do-ha wants to do a lot and is very smart. If he wants to do something, he does it; if he wants to achieve something, he achieves it."
Lee Jae-wook went on to say about taking on the first dual role as twins Baek Do-ha and Baek Do-young, "I thought about it a lot on my own and discussed it a lot with the director. I acted by distinguishing the two as characters with optimistic thinking and sanguine thinking," further raising expectations for his two-in-one performance.
Finally, Lee Jae-wook introduced the show's viewing point as "the process by which Do-ha and Ha-kyung gradually open their hearts and draw closer," stimulating prospective viewers' curiosity, and encouraged viewers to tune in, saying, "Please give a lot of interest and love to the drama 'Last Summer,' a show in which time, seasons and people all grow a level and that you will want to keep on holding onto."
Meanwhile, "Last Summer" brings together director Min Yeon-hong, who showed stylish directing in "Royal Loader," the "Missing: They Were There" series and "Insider," and writer Jeon Yu-ri, who demonstrated delicate writing in "Kiss Sixth Sense" and "Radio Romance."
