Prospective couple Go Su-jin and Park So-hyun revealed their feelings about the reactions they received after announcing their marriage and the honorary labels they gained.
Game commentator "Kkokkogat" Go Su-jin and KBS announcer Park So-hyun, who will tie the knot on Dec. 14, met reporters for interviews at the OSEN building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 25th as they prepare for their wedding.
The two, who recently drew intense attention with their marriage news, have been active in different worlds as an esports commentator and a terrestrial broadcaster announcer, respectively, and grew close over their shared interest in games, naturally developing into a romantic relationship and now preparing for a new start as a married couple.
When asked about the reactions after the marriage announcement, commentator "Kkokkogat" Go Su-jin recalled, "Relatives reached out after a long time, and old friends contacted me a lot. Most reactions were saying, 'The bride is so pretty.'"
Go Su-jin said, "What stands out in my memory is that I thought there might be many comments evaluating someone and saying things like, 'What a waste.' I was grateful that most people looked at us with congratulatory eyes," and announcer Park So-hyun agreed, "Isn't there a tendency to raise one side up and tear the other down? Most of the comment reactions were truly congratulatory, and that was very touching."
Especially, Go Su-jin laughed and said of the nickname "the worst commentator" that emerged after the wedding announcement, "It's an enormous compliment. I'd like it if people mentioned it often."
When asked whether she was eager to appear on couple variety shows, Park So-hyun explained, "Because I'm affiliated with KBS, there's a couple show called 'The Men of Household' (Salim-nam). It's a program where my future husband is more likely to appear than I am," and Go Su-jin confessed, "I want to appear on 'The Return of Superman.' I really hope that program continues to run for a long time."
She added, "If we appear as a couple it would feel new. We have a subject matter, games, that typical couples don't have," and added, "Games aren't only about pleasure and fun. There are games that help a child's development. It would be good to show that."
When the conversation turned to 'The Return of Superman' and children, it raised curiosity about their plans for a second generation. Park So-hyun said first, "We both want to have children, but not right away. Right now is a period to focus on work and to settle into our roles, so I think it will take about two to three years."
Go Su-jin chimed in, "My girlfriend is so cute and innocent-looking, so I thought it would be nice to have a daughter who looks just like her."
When asked whether they would lack dating time given their active careers in their respective fields, the two laughed and said, "So we meet online. We meet in the Rift." When asked if they argued while playing games, Go Su-jin said, "We don't fight. But when I demand something or give an order, she says, 'Don't boss me around.' She says she has her own play style."
Announcer Park So-hyun lamented, "I play games for fun, but my older brother is a bit different. Since he is a former pro gamer and works in the industry, he tries to win and analyze. When I make a play, he says, 'Why did you do that?' and tries to teach me."
Hearing this, commentator Go Su-jin added, "It's good to know the intention behind it. Then you can improve," which drew laughter.
