Comedian Choi Yang-rak recalled his last moments with the late Jeon Yoo-seong and wept.
On the 26th, the iMBC Entertainment YouTube account released footage of the wake at the late Jeon Yoo-seong's funeral hall.
Choi Yang-rak said, "I am heartbroken," and added, "I got a call Monday morning. Not to boast, but to tell you — my daughter Jebi's son-in-law connected the call, and he said, 'Among many people, I want to see you.'"
He continued, "I went as soon as my schedule ended. I thought he would be in a coma. The body looked that way — anyone could tell it was serious. But his mind was still clear, strangely," and said, "Even until the end he didn't show pain to junior comedian Choi Yang-rak and even threw out humor. Oh my.. he didn't have to do that," and he choked up.
He added, "Because I know him so well... saying 'I feel like I'm going to die soon' yet acting calm," and said he even joked while stroking the face of Choi Yang-rak's wife, comedian Paeng Hyun-sook. Jeon Yoo-seong was also known for having introduced the two to each other.
Jeon Yoo-seong died around 9:05 p.m. on the 25th at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, where he had been hospitalized, as his pulmonary fibrosis symptoms worsened. He was 76. He refused life-prolonging treatment. He was 76. The wake was set up at Asan Medical Center in Seoul. The burial site is Inwol-myeon, Namwon.
Lee Hong-ryeol stayed from the first day at the wake to tend to mourners, and Choi Yang-rak, who spent a long time with the deceased, also showed deep grief while receiving juniors as a chief mourner. Among those who paid respects were Korea Comedians Association Chairman Kim Hak-rae, as well as Kang Ho-dong, Joo Byung-jin, Nam Hee-seok, Lee Bong-won, Kim Yong-man, Kim Kyung-sik, Yoo Jae-seok, Ji Seok-jin, Lee Sugeun, Choi Seung-kyung, Oh Na-ma, Shin Bong-sun, Kim Ji-min, Heo Kyung-hwan, Lee Dong-woo, Nam Ching-hee, Kim Seung-hyun, Choi Byung-seo, Hong Rok-gi, Kim Shin-young and other juniors. Also, comedian Park Mi-sun, who recently caused concern with reports of health issues, and singer Jin Mi-ryeong, his common-law ex-wife, sent wreaths of condolence to mourn the deceased.
