After the comedy world's patriarch, the late Jeon Yu-seong, passed away, his final teachings and warm connections have been reexamined, moving his juniors and fans.
Jeon Yu-seong last appeared in public on Oct. 20 last year when he officiated the wedding of Cho Sae-ho and model Jeong Su-ji. He, who cherished his disciples and juniors all his life, offered blessings at the wedding with his characteristic humor and heartfelt advice. But in just about three months, his symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis worsened, and on the 25th at 9:05 p.m., he closed his eyes at Jeonbuk National University Hospital. He was 76.
On the 26th, Cho Sae-ho posted on social media, I was happy and grateful to be your junior, to be your disciple, expressing deep sorrow. He added, During the time I worried a lot about work, your words, 'It's one of two things, do it or don't... just do it,' echo in my mind. The last voice saying, 'Take care...' still rings in my ears, he wrote tearfully.
During his lifetime, Jeon Yu-seong showed affection for Cho Sae-ho, saying, He was a kid who never backed down and talked back well from his debut. These kinds of kids become stars. He also advised, Make a lot of money and buy a building. But if you buy a building you become a landlord. Build a theater and nurture juniors. Build a 'Cho Sae-ho Theater' on the first floor, giving both laughter and emotion.
The deceased was a mentor who raised many comedians including Paeng Hyun-sook, as well as Kim Shin-young and Cho Sae-ho, and he discovered singer Kim Hyun-sik and actress Han Chae-young. His insight and affection left a deep mark on Korean comedy and popular culture as a whole.
