Actor Yim Siwan spoke about joining the film "The Mantis: Original Sin".
On the 25th, at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Station in Seoul, a production presentation for the Netflix film "The Mantis: Original Sin" was held. Actors Yim Siwan, Park Gyu-young, Jo Woo-jin, and director Lee Tae-seong attended the event.
"The Mantis: Original Sin" is an action film depicting the showdown for the top spot between A-level killer "The Mantis," who returned after a long vacation to a murder-for-hire world where all the rules have collapsed; his trainee peer and rival "Jae-yi"; and retired legend killer "Dokgo."
In particular, it is also a spin-off of the 2023 film "Gilboksoon." Yim Siwan, who plays the role of Han-ul, the new-generation A-level killer "The Mantis," recalled, "When we were filming Gilboksoon, The Mantis' print was present, and through that fingerprint director Byun Seong-hyun contacted me. He asked, 'Could you provide a voice appearance as The Mantis?,'" he recalled.
He continued, "It didn't come together at that time, but from then on I was given the name The Mantis, so in a way I thought this was a fated destiny that I would have to do this work when it was born, and I think I was carrying that destiny until before filming," and he joked, "Even while reading the script, I thought, 'This is my destiny.' and accepted that suffering for the action would be my destiny."
On his acting focus he said, "Professionally, the role might look like a villain or a dark character, but I tried to portray him contrasted with a warm personality. I thought I should hide that warmth because of his professional traits, so I deliberately depicted him as a blunt, offhand person on the outside."
