Actor Park Gyu-young talked about the action acting in The Mantis: Original Sin.
On the 25th, a production briefing for the Netflix film The Mantis: Original Sin was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University in Seoul. Actors Yim Siwan, Park Gyu-young, Jo Woo-jin and director Lee Tae-seong attended the event.
The Mantis: Original Sin is an action film that depicts the showdown for the top spot between A-grade killer "Mantis," who returned after a long vacation to the hitman industry where all rules have collapsed, his trainee, peer and rival "Jae-yi," and retired legend killer "Dok-go," and is a spin-off of 'Gil Bok-soon'.
That day Park Gyu-young said, I was an enormous fan of 'Gil Bok-soon.' I watched it about five or six times. But if I could exist as a character within that world as a spin-off, of course I thought I should appear. Above all, the opportunity to work with senior actors was precious, so I really wanted to appear.
Park Gyu-young described her character "Jae-yi" as, She trained with Han-ul from childhood and is also his closest friend. In fact she has excellent skills, but she is a person who is always feeling a thirst.
She added, She and Han-ul have been closest since childhood and love each other, but because they are so close she feels jealousy toward Han-ul for things she cannot have by her own ability. I talked a lot with the director about how to express the various feelings felt toward the person closest to her and how to naturally blend them.
About the action, she said, Jae-yi's main weapon is a "long sword." Accordingly, the action directors designed movements that use long, extended lines. In fact the long sword is heavier than it looks and its tip can wobble, so I practiced a lot at action school.
She went on, Even during practice and filming, I approached it thinking, "I just need to do well," and practiced memorizing the action choreography a lot. When I took a step forward, I saw senior Siwan spinning in the air. It felt like the wind was blowing, and when I looked, senior Woo-jin was swinging. They were action scenes where I absolutely just had to work hard.
