Actor Kang Young-seok shared the behind-the-scenes story of joining the cast.
On the 25th, at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall, a production briefing was held for the film First Ride (director Nam Dae-joong, distributed by ㈜SHOWBOX, produced by Brainshower and TH Story). The event was attended by Kang Ha-neul, Kim Young-kwang, Kang Young-seok, Han Sun-hwa and director Nam Dae-joong.
The film First Ride is a comedy about 24-year friends who, when gathered together — Tae-jeong (Kang Ha-neul) the one who sees things through, Do-jin (Kim Young-kwang) the cheerful one, Yeon-min (Cha Eun-woo) the handsome one, Geum-bok (Kang Young-seok) who sleeps with his eyes open, and Ok-sim (Han Sun-hwa) the lovable one — set off on their first trip abroad, which makes them even funnier together.
That day, Kang Young-seok, who delivered a passionate performance as Geum-bok, attracted attention when it was revealed that he passed an "800 to 1 head shape audition." Kang Young-seok recalled, "The director wasn't there at the time, but he asked me if there were any dents on my head. I had never seen myself bald, so I asked my mother, and she told me, 'It will be fine.'"
Director Nam Dae-joong said, "I asked the assistant director to check thoroughly because the head shape could be bumpy or flat," and joked, "We cast Kang Young-seok through an audition, but I already knew he was such a good actor there was no need to debate his acting ability. The biggest reasons were his eyes and his head shape."
He added, "I'm joking, but his acting tone fit the comedy I pursue, and for the final audition he came with his head completely shaved. When I saw him, his head shape was perfect. Not a single pimple. Like a perfect lightbulb. A man's look can come from his hair, but how could Kang Young-seok be so cute and handsome with a shaved head — it was that perfect."
