Actor Jin Tae-hyun shared his thoughts on the controversy over taking off his shirt while running.
On the 25th, Jin Tae-hyun said in a video posted on the YouTube channel he runs with his wife, actor Park Si-eun, "My job is not running. This is a personal opinion from someone who does it as a hobby, so please don't watch and get angry or leave malicious comments just because you disagree," adding, "On the issue of taking off your shirt while running, there are opinions of 'what's the big deal' and 'do you really have to take it off,' and I understand both sides."
He said, "At a track or in a park during off-peak hours, I've also taken off my shirt and run. In the summer, functional clothing doesn't do its job in monsoon season or Southeast Asian weather."
Park Si-eun said, "Watching Taehyun wring out his clothes, it looked like they'd been dipped in a pool and pulled out," adding, "At first I didn't understand, but seeing how sweat-soaked and heavy the clothes get in summer, I get why he takes them off."
Jin Tae-hyun recalled being stopped after taking off his shirt during a workout, saying, "I had never been stopped before, but a male runner said he didn't want to see me shirtless, so I put my shirt on."
The couple raised the need for related legislation. When Park Si-eun said, "If it's set by law, people who want to take off their shirts can hold back, and those who don't want to see it won't have to make an issue of it," Jin Tae-hyun also said, "For now, there are no legal restrictions on going shirtless. When people run and work out together, there are citizens who say they don't like sweat splashing from the side. If the National Assembly makes a law, it could reduce unnecessary conflict."
