'To the moon' reveals the sealed past of actor Kim Young-dae.
The MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'To the moon' (writer Na Yoon-chae, directors Oh Da-young and Jung Hoon), which premiered on the 19th, is striking a chord with home viewers with the singular charm of its lone male lead, Dr. Ham (played by Kim Young-dae).
Dr. Ham is a legendary figure at Maron Confectionery. He scored a blockbuster with the idea of drawing a 'conscience line' on the back of snack bags, and thereafter every idea he released was a hit, propelling him rapidly to a corporate director position. Even the seemingly perfect Dr. Ham was ultimately an ordinary office worker who thought about leaving as soon as he arrived at work. The sight of him secretly scribbling "I want to go home" in his notebook resonated with many who relate to that reality.
Meanwhile, on the 25th, stills released by the production team of 'To the moon' unexpectedly revealed Dr. Ham's sealed past—his former life as a singer—capturing attention.
In the released photos, Dr. Ham exudes a completely different atmosphere from now. With undone shirt buttons, an eye-catching necklace and belt, his visual is 180 degrees different from his usual neat office-worker image. Gripping the microphone with trembling hands, he then pulls a beanie low like a hermit crab and hides his own face. What happened to him on that stage? As a past markedly different from office-worker Dr. Ham is revealed, curiosity about his hidden story grows.
Actor Kim Young-dae (Dr. Ham/Ham Ji-woo) is also set to make a surprise appearance on MBC's music program Show! Music Core on the 27th, raising expectations. Kim Young-dae's appearance on Show! Music Core was earlier reported exclusively by OSEN. This appearance, which extends Dr. Ham's backstory as a former singer to a real-life stage, is expected to offer a novel enjoyment that blurs the line between drama and reality.
At the production presentation for 'To the moon,' Kim Young-dae said, "I had never played drums before, so I practiced separately and even tried recording. My singing ability isn't exceptional, but I did my best and worked hard," conveying that he made strenuous efforts for the character. Lee Seon-bin (playing Jung Da-hae) added, "There are many good OSTs filled with Young-dae's voice. It will be another point of enjoyment for the work," further boosting anticipation. Following the production presentation, the Show! Music Core production team reportedly sent a love call to Kim Young-dae, and Kim Young-dae is expected to perform the OST stage from the drama himself.
