"In the season of your brilliance" has finalized casting with Lee Sung-kyung and Chae Jong-hyeop, announcing the birth of an unpredictable brilliant romance.
MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama In the season of your brilliance, set to air in the first half of next year (planned by Namgung Seong-woo, written by Jo Seong-hee, directed by Jeong Sang-hee and Kim Young-jae), depicts a man named Chan who lives every day like an exciting summer break and a woman named Ran who has locked herself into winter, who meet as if by fate and awaken frozen time with an unpredictable "brilliant" romance.
In the season of your brilliance is a collaboration between Jo Seong-hee, the master of refreshing romance who wrote Twenty but Seventeen, She Was Pretty and High School King of Savvy, and PD Jeong Sang-hee, who proved delicate directing in Please Send Me a Fan Letter and Wonderful World. The pairing of Lee Sung-kyung and Chae Jong-hyeop, who are continuing distinctive careers in the romance genre, has early on made this one of next year's most anticipated works for the first half of the year.
In the drama, Lee Sung-kyung plays Song Ha-ran, the chief designer at Korea's top high-end fashion house Nana Atelier. Contrary to her flawless, perfect-looking image, Ha-ran is a character who has locked herself into winter because of the pain of sending loved ones away. But an accidental meeting with Chan creates cracks in her daily life, and the carefully held balance of her life begins to wobble.
Lee Sung-kyung, whose solid filmography and ability to embody characters have been recognized through The Nice Guy, the Romantic Doctor Kim series, Say It's Love and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, is expected to once again prove her worth as a rom-com goddess by delicately portraying the complex emotions hidden behind a cold, solid defensive shell.
Chae Jong-hyeop plays Sunwoo Chan, a character designer at a world-renowned animation studio. Chan carries deep wounds from a mysterious past accident beneath a sunny, cheerful exterior. But through his encounter with Ha-ran, he faces unimaginable secrets and enters a new phase in his life.
Chae Jong-hyeop, who has proven a wide acting spectrum through Maybe It's a Coincidence?, Eye Love You, Castaway Diva and The Speed to You 493km, is expected to deliver warm empathy and a lasting impression to viewers by capturing both the brilliance and the pain of life with his signature sincere acting.
The production team said Lee Sung-kyung and Chae Jong-hyeop are the best actors to most convincingly portray their respective characters and narratives. They asked viewers to look forward to whether the two people, who face secrets from the past, can become the spring that melts each other's winters, and said the mystery and emotional waves entwined between them will offer viewers "brilliant emotion."
Meanwhile, MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama In the season of your brilliance has completed its main preparations and is stepping up production with the goal of airing in the first half of next year.
