'Perfect Life' O Jung-tae's mother, Ms. Kim Bok-deok, showed a razor-sharp objective view that embarrassed O Jung-tae.
On the 24th aired TV CHOSUN entertainment 'Perfect Life', comedian O Jung-tae and his mother, Ms. Kim Bok-deok, appeared. Before their appearance, three photos were shown as hints about the guests, and because of a photo taken affectionately with Park Bo-gum, Heo Sung-tae, and Lee Sang-yi, they wondered whether he might be an actor or another outstanding figure.
When O Jung-tae appeared, everyone made puzzled faces. O Jung-tae explained that the photo was taken when they met during a drama shoot. When everyone became excited by the line about a "neck-and-neck match with Park Bo-gum," O Jung-tae explained, "I filmed a drama with Park Bo-gum. I posted this, and my comedian friends jokingly commented that it was 'neck and neck with Park Bo-gum.'"
Hyun-young asked O Jung-tae's mother, "Is your son handsome, or is Park Bo-gum handsome?" O Jung-tae's mother simply said, "Park Bo-gum is more handsome," which made O Jung-tae feel slighted. When O Jung-tae asked, "Mom, who gives you allowance?" the mother then corrected herself to, "I think my son is a little more handsome than Park Bo-gum," which prompted laughter.
Although the mother and son were in a warm atmosphere, they had worries. It was about health. O Jung-tae explained his poor physical condition after a stage accident, saying, "I fell off the stage during a performance, my teeth were broken and I was injured. My knees and hips all took a hit." But there was something more important: his mother's health.
Ms. Kim Bok-deok showed her hand, saying, "My hand doesn't grip well," revealing a deformed hand from joint problems. O Jung-tae explained his mother's condition, saying, "My mother is in stage 4 degenerative arthritis. Just watching her walk breaks my heart; her hands are deformed and they really hurt."
The specialist said, "You have to distinguish between degenerative arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Degenerative arthritis loosens up a bit after morning stiffness, whereas rheumatoid appears on the back of the hand and the pain lasts longer than in the morning," and added, "Also, the inner knee joint becomes very narrow. The inner cartilage is worn a lot so the bones end up rubbing against each other. The inner bone also collapses, relatively causing a bowleg. It appears to be stage 4 degenerative arthritis."
He went on to explain degenerative arthritis, saying, "Cartilage has no nerves. But you don't notice until more than 70% of the cartilage is worn away. When you feel pain and come in, degenerative arthritis has already begun."
Ms. Kim Bok-deok was also caring for her husband, who was in the early stages of dementia. O Jung-tae's mother recalled calmly, "He would actually suspect me if I came home late and sometimes didn't know. But he couldn't find the house address. I began to suspect it then." Still, her attentive care for her husband and how she would pack side dishes in bundles for her son and daughter-in-law were no different from those of many mothers in Korea, bringing viewers to tears.
