Comedian Jeon Yoo-seong, 76, was reported to have suffered a rapid decline in health.
The Korea Broadcasting Comedians Association said on 24th, "Our comedy community's respected elder, senior Jeon Yoo-seong, is currently in very critical condition." It added, "We would like to convey our gratitude and respect to senior Jeon Yoo-seong, who has cherished and loved his juniors for a long time and has devoted himself to the development of Korean comedy," and said, "For seniors and juniors who cannot visit the hospital in person due to busy schedules and various circumstances, we would appreciate it if you could send video messages."
It continued, "We are asking with the hope that senior Jeon Yoo-seong's life will feel content and happy through videos from juniors filled with memories with him, so please do not feel burdened and only those who would like to greet the senior should participate."
Jeon Yoo-seong, who is currently hospitalized at a general hospital in Jeonju, was reported to be conscious. On 25th, Jeon's side said, "There is air trapped in both lungs due to pneumothorax, making spontaneous breathing difficult, so an oxygen respirator was applied." Medical staff were said to have delivered a reserved assessment that, depending on the prognosis, his condition could improve or worsen.
Jeon Yoo-seong underwent a pneumothorax procedure in Jun. and was later rehospitalized as his health declined again.
Debuting in 1969, Jeon Yoo-seong is known as the first person to use the term "gagman" at a time when the words comedian or comedienne were used.
