Jeong Seung-hwan expressed gratitude to a contestant who sang his song.
On the 23rd, SBS's new music audition Our Ballads aired its first episode.
Jun Hyun-moo, who attended as a judge that day, opened by saying, "When you hold a ballad audition, you might think a master of ballad should emerge."
Park Kyung-rim explained the reason she decided to appear, saying, "I also worked part-time at a record shop for six years and I am a former Music Bank host. I thought a lot, but I came to think that ballad is "for the listener." Memories and sentiment, emotions can be summoned. I thought people could empathize, so I gathered the courage to appear."
Jeong Seung-hwan revealed he came from the audition program K-pop Star, and Jun Hyun-moo said, "I vividly remember him trembling, and now he has grown into a judge like this. He really has grown well."
Afterward, 21-year-old Cheon Beom-seok appeared as a contestant. He said that watching K-pop Star made him dream of becoming a musician in five minutes, then said, "I started music at 17, but I couldn't even read sheet music, so I began by learning keyboard. I entered university with my original songs."
When Cheon Beom-seok named Jeong Seung-hwan's "Jjeari" as his life ballad, Jeong Seung-hwan was pleased, saying he truly understands music. Jeong Seung-hwan said, "It's a song I don't really know. I only sing it at concerts. It's a song I cry while singing, and now that someone says they will sing it, I suddenly feel nervous," he said.
Watching Cheon Beom-seok prepare the piano, Jeong Seung-hwan revealed his trembling feelings, saying, "This is a really difficult song. This is the first time I have seen someone sing this song." Mimi, who listened to Cheon Beom-seok's song, showed her amazement, saying, "Isn't he a master?" When the song ended, applause and cheers erupted. Mimi said, "What if a master is already here at the audition?" and Jun Hyun-moo even asked skeptically, "Did he really start at 17?"
Park Kyung-rim said, "It won't be easy to sing in front of the original artist," and Jeong Seung-hwan lavished praise, saying, "I can never sing this song while playing piano. It's a very tricky piece. At first I listened wondering, 'How will he sing it,' but at some point I thought, 'Was this really my song?' I think it was interpreted well. I'm grateful you sang it better than I did."
Jeong Jae-hyung said, "When you think of ballad you might think of one thing, but everyone is surprised by the wide range of emotions. It's a stage that showed what lyricism is. I'm so, so proud," he said. As Cheon Beom-seok exited, Jeong Seung-hwan murmured, "Oh, my song got snatched away."
