"Radio Star" focuses on the acting world of actress Jang So-yeon, an "obsessive observer" who doesn't miss a single character detail.
Today (24th) airing MBC variety show 'Radio Star' is presented as a "Many works will come" special featuring Kim Mi-kyung, Jang So-yeon, Lee El and Im Soo-hyang.
Jang So-yeon revealed the reason she recently appeared on "Pursuing Old Encounters (Pursuing Old Encounters)" season 3 while sharing her recent news, and hinted at what kind of meetings she is continuing with the cast, raising curiosity.
The secret of Jang So-yeon, who speaks various languages such as Yanbian dialect, English, Japanese and Chinese at a copier level, is also revealed. In particular, when playing a role of a defector from the North, she studied North Korean speech by watching North Korean documentaries and using Korean-Chinese dictionaries, and to learn dialects she said she directly visited real-life locations such as local courts and bus terminals to acquire them, revealing an unusual process. Everyone is surprised by her "obsessive observer" trait, with details that bring her characters to life.
In particular, Jang So-yeon added a differentiated explanation, saying, "North Korean speech uses the Pyeongan-do dialect like standard language, and Hamgyeong-do is used like dialects such as Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do," and gave an on-the-spot demonstration. The living intonation and detailed distinctions she acquired by the "listen, copy and absorb" method impressed the MCs and guests, who praised her as "a copier and a translator."
A surprising incident that occurred during the filming of the highly popular film 'The Wailing' is also revealed. She explained that the director had imposed a "silence order" and disclosed the related details, heightening curiosity. Expectations are growing about what the story during the 'The Wailing' shoot is, which gives goosebumps just by hearing it.
Regarding director Ahn Pan-seok's epithet "persona," Jang So-yeon recalled, "I started my first drama with the director's work 'White Tower.' After that, I received calls from the director and appeared in several works," reminiscing about their connection. She appeared in Ahn Pan-seok's 'White Tower', 'The Woman's Qualification', 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine' and 'Something in the Rain', among others.
Jang So-yeon confessed, "During 'Something in the Rain' I immersed myself so realistically in the character that I treated the drama set as my room," conveying her level of immersion in acting and revealing a strong bond with the director. It airs tonight at 10:30 p.m.
