Actor Yoo-jin expressed her feelings about returning after 4 years since Penthouse.
On the afternoon of the 24th at The Link Seoul in Guro-gu, Seoul, an MBN new Wednesday-Thursday drama First Lady production press conference was held. Actors Yoo-jin, Ji Hyun-woo, Lee Min-young, and director Lee Ho-hyun attended the press conference and talked.
First Lady is a drama that tells the story that unfolds when an unprecedented incident occurs in which a husband elected president asks his wife, who will become the first lady, for a divorce.
In the work, Yoo-jin plays Cha Soo-yeon, a kingmaker who made an unknown activist elected president and became the first lady. In particular, she gave a passionate performance as Oh Yoon-hee in the SBS Penthouse series, which aired from 2020 to 2021.
Moreover, the Penthouse series was a big hit, recording a peak viewership rating of 29.2%. Asked whether she felt pressure in choosing her next work because of that, Yoo-jin joked, "I felt pressure. So I took a long break, a four-year hiatus," and honestly confessed, "It wasn't intentional."
She said, "Of course I think it was a burden. Especially since the previous work had many distinguished people besides me, if the burden was less compared to that, our drama has fewer characters and parts that need to be carried, and when we started filming it was more difficult than I expected, so I was very surprised. It was harder to realize the character than expected. So I wondered if I should have prepared more, and the truth is I started filming with an uneasy mind," expressing her sense of burden.
She continued, "As I became more accustomed while filming, I did it with confidence and belief, and the director and the actors gave me trust. I received a lot of help. Even now it's true that I'm still nervous and trembling. I naturally worry, 'Will the Cha Soo-yeon I portrayed have persuasive power?', 'Will it give the impression that the clothes don't suit me?' It's like the first time to be so worried ahead of the premiere. It also means that I took on a new challenge. It's burdensome, but I worked hard so I'm here with confidence," she said, raising expectations.
Meanwhile, First Lady premieres tonight (24th) at 10:20 p.m.
