Actor Yoojin explained why she chose First Lady as her comeback work.
On the afternoon of the 24th at The Link Seoul in Guro-gu, Seoul, an MBN new Wednesday-Thursday drama First Lady production presentation was held. Actors Yoojin, Ji Hyun-woo, Lee Min-young and director Lee Ho-hyun attended the production presentation and talked.
First Lady is a drama that tells the story that unfolds when an unprecedented incident occurs in which a husband elected president demands a divorce from the wife who will become first lady.
In the work, Yoojin played Cha Su-yeon, a kingmaker who became first lady by getting an unknown activist elected president. When director Lee Ho-hyun was asked why he cast Yoojin, he said, "She was like a fairy to me. A fairy becoming first lady? I thought it could be fun. When I saw her acting, even though she was an idol singer, I knew she performed seriously and interestingly without any prejudice against actors who came from idols and that she made a lot of effort. So I thought if actress Yoojin could do it, it would be a great help to our drama, and she readily agreed," he explained.
When Yoojin was asked why she chose First Lady as her comeback drama after four years, she replied, "First, the story was interesting. The story starting with proposing a divorce was so intriguing, and the character Cha Su-yeon was a role I had not tried before, so I was tempted. I had played a strong character in my previous work, but this is completely different. If the previous work had strong situations, now the role of Cha Su-yeon itself is very strong and bold, and in some ways can appear negative because she pursues her own ambition, which made the character appealing. It also feels like my first political-background drama. I'm not someone who is particularly interested in politics, but the story approached me interestingly, so I chose it," she answered.
Meanwhile, First Lady airs its first episode tonight (the 24th) at 10:20 p.m.
