Comedian Lee Jin-ho, who is under investigation for illegal gambling and is currently keeping a low profile, was caught by police after driving while intoxicated.
On the 24th, his agency SM C&C told OSEN that they were "checking the report and currently verifying it" regarding Lee Jin-ho's alleged drunk driving.
Earlier that day, one outlet reported that Lee Jin-ho was detained after driving about 100 km while intoxicated and is under police investigation.
According to the report, the Yangpyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province detained and is investigating Lee on suspicion of drunk driving from Incheon to Yangpyeong County at around 3 a.m. that day. Police received a report that "Lee Jin-ho was driving under the influence in Incheon," and after a coordinated investigation across regions, arrested him in Yangpyeong.
Investigators found that Lee Jin-ho was driving at a level that would result in license cancellation, but for now the police sent him home and plan to conduct additional questioning. Blood tests to measure his blood alcohol concentration have been taken, and authorities are awaiting the results.
Meanwhile, Lee Jin-ho debuted in 2005 as an SBS special recruitment comedian. In October last year he posted on his social media, "In 2020 I happened to start playing on an illegal online gambling site and accumulated debts that I could not handle," and confessed, "The financial loss is painful, but above all I am deeply sorry to those who trusted me and lent me money. I promise to repay the debt left to me no matter what happens."
It is known that the amount Lee Jin-ho borrowed from fellow entertainers and lending companies reached about 2.3 billion won. In particular, it was reported with shock that among the entertainers he borrowed money from were BTS member Jimin, comedian Lee Sugeun, and singer Ha Sung-woon.
