Actor Kim Seong-o has completely transformed into a detective pursuing the truth.
Kim Seong-o appeared as Choi Cheol, who returned to the force after 15 years and digs into the truth, in episodes 3-4 of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama Shin's Project (written by Ban Giri, directed by Shin Kyung-soo, planned by Studio Dragon, produced by Do Frame), which aired on the 22nd and 23rd.
In the drama, Choi Cheol served as a key accomplice by carrying out the task of safely helping the warehouse hostage-taker Lee Sang-hyun (played by Kang Seung-ho) escape at Shin's (played by Han Seok-kyu) request. Choi Cheol, who drove the patrol car and successfully aided Lee Sang-hyun's escape, proved he is a person with the initiative to make Shin's plan a reality.
In the process, the reason Choi Cheol helps Shin was revealed. He was the detective who responded to the hostage situation 15 years ago in which Shin's son was killed. Choi Cheol accepted Shin's request by saying, "There are many ways to make someone pay," showing atonement for the past tragedy. Kim Seong-o conveyed Choi Cheol's complex inner feelings crushed by guilt with a single sigh-laced line, making viewers' hearts ache.
Back on the force, Choi Cheol began the narrative of a "real detective" who uncovers the buried tragedy from 15 years ago. He first visited the Korean National Police Agency records room, reviewed the case files he had handled, and showed the obsession to uncover the truth of the past case himself.
Choi Cheol then visited the empty playground where the hostage incident occurred 15 years ago and recalled the past. Shaken by anguish, he soon left with eyes filled with anguish and determination, foreshadowing that he would overcome past trauma and pursue the truth. Kim Seong-o's signature heavy gaze and expressions heightened anticipation for Choi Cheol's moves.
Kim Seong-o brought the character to life by moving between the detective's drive and an interior carrying trauma. Viewers are focusing on how Choi Cheol, back at the Korean National Police Agency, will uncover the truth of the past case amid his complicated relationship with Shin.
Meanwhile, Kim Seong-o's intense performance as a detective can be seen every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 p.m. on tvN's Shin's Project.
