In "Rookie director Kim Yeon-koung," director Kim Yeon-koung challenged directing and revealed her mind control.
MBC held a press conference for the new variety show "Rookie director Kim Yeon-koung" on the afternoon of the 24th in Sangam-dong, Mapo District, Seoul. Former volleyball player Kim Yeon-koung, SEVENTEEN's Seungkwan, former volleyball player Pyo Seung-ju, and producer Kwon Rak-hee attended and discussed the program under the moderation of broadcaster Park Kyung-rim.
"Rookie director Kim Yeon-koung" is a variety show that depicts the club founding project of volleyball legend and emperor of volleyball Kim Yeon-koung, who returns as a rookie director. It is expected to portray world No. 1, the unique god of volleyball Kim Yeon-koung returning as a 0th-year "new" director.
Kim Yeon-koung said with a laugh, "I didn't expect to be a director so soon. I retired and immediately took on a directing position. Producer Kwon Rak-hee came during the season and teased me in a way that wasn't exactly teasing," and she added, "Also, the concept of the program was very good. I thought it would further raise awareness of volleyball, so I decided to do this program. I actually wanted to try being a director. It was good to be able to experience it through broadcasting. There were hardships. I think it became an opportunity for me to grow and develop as a director."
What was Kim Yeon-koung like as a director rather than as a player? Captain Pyo Seung-ju, who had also played on the same team, said, "From what I felt, she actually seemed calmer than when she was a player. As a player she had a more immediate style. I can't explain it well, but didn't she have a somewhat strong image? Once she became a director, she became calmer. I was once surprised by that." He added jokingly, "She showed such composure that if it had been the old days there would have been chaos and people shouting 'sikppang,' but she became very calm."
Regarding the catchphrase "sikppang," director Kim Yeon-koung said, "I had no choice but to control my mind. When I got impatient, the players became impatient too. I even experienced growth. I thought I was calm, but the teaser shows none of that, so I'm very curious and excited to see the broadcast to find out what I said and what swear words I used. I hope many people watch it on air." In response, Bu Seung-kwan chimed in, "Our director doesn't usually use swear words that much," adding to the laughter.
"Rookie director Kim Yeon-koung" will premiere on the 28th at 9:10 p.m.
