(Following interview ①) Actress Uhm Jung-hwa recalled her early debut days as she watched Jang Da-a, who played her younger self.
On the afternoon of the 23rd at a café in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, a wrap-up interview with lead actress Uhm Jung-hwa of the GenieTV original drama "My Troublesome Star" was held.
"My Troublesome Star" is a tearful, snot-shedding, time-flying romantic comedy about South Korea's top star who overnight becomes an ordinary middle-aged woman.
In the show, Uhm Jung-hwa, who played Bong Cheong-ja — from Im Se-ra, the "national goddess," whose 25 years were entirely edited out — when asked as she watched Jang Da-a, who appeared as her younger self, "Didn't it remind you of how you looked when you were young?" she joked, "We look the same, right?"
She said of Jang Da-a, "Fresh and kind of cheeky. That look was so cute and lovable. I could also feel the sincerity she brings to acting. Both Jang Da-a the actor and the portrayal of young Im Se-ra in the drama treat acting seriously rather than as play. I really related to those things a lot."
When asked what she was actually like when she was young, Uhm Jung-hwa confessed, "Actually, in my 20s, 30s and 40s, one thing that didn't change as an actor seems to be the craving for projects. That hasn't changed. But the anxieties and pains I felt when thinking about the future in between projects have gradually faded."
She continued, "Instead, I began to look forward. When I was young I couldn't imagine being able to do works like this at this age. Now I can think of looking forward for the same reasons on the same level. 'As I get older, I won't have roles left to do, right?' I don't think that anymore," she said frankly.
Asked for her thoughts watching the romantic chemistry between Lee Min-jae, who played Dokgo Cheol in his 20s, and Jang Da-a, she said, "I thought it was refreshingly innocent. Lee Min-jae was good too. The (past) scenes in each epilogue were also very nice. Seeing those scenes, combined with the adults' stories, the emotions blended and built the narrative better. It made me feel they protected each other with very pure hearts," she said with delight. (Continued in interview ③.)
