On the afternoon of the 23rd at a cafe in Gangnam District, Seoul, a wrap-up interview was held with actress Uhm Jung-hwa, who played Bong Cheong-ja (Im Se-ra) in the Genie TV original drama "My Troublesome Star."
"My Troublesome Star" is a tearful, snot-flying, time-flying romantic comedy about South Korea's top star suddenly becoming an ordinary middle-aged woman overnight.
In the story, Bong Cheong-ja is a character who loses all memories of the past 25 years due to an accident. Thus, Bong Cheong-ja, who fell from being the 'national goddess' Im Se-ra to an ordinary middle-aged woman overnight, struggles to regain her lost 25 years of memories and her place.
This narrative of Im Se-ra also touches on the primal fears that stars have. Uhm Jung-hwa said, "When I first read the script, I liked the parts about 'losing memory,' 'being a star,' and 'starting again from scratch.' I also wondered, 'Would I be able to do that?'"
She said, "Really, putting myself in Im Se-ra's position, if no one recognized me, I think I would want to start over too. In that sense I empathized a lot, and it was also the part I liked most about this work. While doing this I also tried shooting a daily drama again, and there were many fun scenes, so I was able to enjoy filming a lot."
Meanwhile, in the work, Bong Cheong-ja's niece Bong Da-hee (played by Do Young-seo) dreams of becoming an entertainer following her aunt despite her mother Bong Baek-ja's (played by Joo In-young) opposition. In real life, Uhm Jung-hwa is also the aunt of Uhm Ji-on, who is the daughter of her younger brother Uhm Tae-woong and Yoon Hye-jin. It is known that Uhm Ji-on has recently been focusing on vocal training for entrance exams to arts middle schools.
When asked, "What would you do if your niece Ji-on said she wanted to become an entertainer?" Uhm Jung-hwa said, "Kids these days are really optimal. Of course they may not know exactly what they want yet, but Ji-on already seems to know what she wants. So I would support her working hard to achieve whatever dream she has, even if it is to be an entertainer. Acting or singing are very fun paths. It's hard, but I strongly support chasing one's dreams," she said in support.
