The 1.65 million-subscriber YouTuber SangHyuk, who is suspected of drunk driving, has deleted his social media accounts and remained silent, and disappointed subscribers are quickly cutting ties.
According to YouTube channel analytics site Social Blade, SangHyuk's YouTube channel SangHyukSangHyuk lost about 10,000 subscribers, bringing the total to 1.64 million. After reaching 1.65 million subscribers on the 13th and maintaining that level, SangHyuk was hit when 10,000 people decided to unsubscribe in a single day on the 23rd.
The background to the subscribers' cancellations is the drunk-driving allegation. Recently, the Seoul Songpa Police Station arrested and is investigating a man in his 30s, identified as A, on suspicion of refusing a breathalyzer test under the Road Traffic Act. A was caught in an intoxicated state on the 21st, but refused the breath test and attempted to flee, after which he was arrested at the scene.
Afterward, it became known that A was a YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers, and netizens raised suspicions that the only 30-something male YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers was SangHyuk. Some netizens left critical comments on SangHyuk's social media accounts demanding an official explanation, saying things like "explain yourself" and "I'm disappointed."
Especially because SangHyuk continued to post about products he was advertising on his social media accounts and uploaded new videos to his YouTube channel before this was known, his actions have caused an even greater sense of betrayal. About 8,000 comments have been posted on his recent YouTube video, with criticism continuing.
Because it has not been confirmed that the person arrested for drunk driving is the 1.65 million-subscriber YouTuber A, some public opinion urged restraint in criticizing him. However, the suspicion has deepened after SangHyuk deleted his social media accounts just one day after the allegation surfaced.
SangHyuk started as a BJ on AfreecaTV in 2018 and moved to YouTube in 2019. He drew attention as an entrepreneur, launching a french fry brand, and gained recognition through appearances on shows such as KBS2's The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears.
