Today (24th) Disney+ original series "북극성" (written by Jung Seo-kyung, directed by Kim Hee-won and Heo Myung-haeng) episodes 6 and 7 are released.
'북극성'은 United Nations (UN) ambassador Moonju (Jeon Ji-hyun), who has built an international reputation, pursues the forces behind the shooting of a presidential candidate, and together with Sanho (Gang Dong-won), a nationality-unknown special agent who must protect her, faces the enormous truth threatening the Korean Peninsula. The production team released preview stills foreshadowing the whirlwind developments ahead of the release of episodes 6 and 7.
The released stills capture unpredictable developments unfolding around a precarious Korean Peninsula, drawing attention. After exposing the danger of war at the risk of everything and fleeing to an unknown place, Moonju and Sanho spend time alone together amid the anxiety that there may be no tomorrow, leaving the tumultuous world behind even if only briefly. In particular, Sanho's poignant line confessing his feelings for Moonju—"I was afraid you might get hurt. That's why I was holding on to you even in my dreams"—is expected to quicken many hearts and greatly enhance the appeal of the romance genre.
However, Moonju, who has become an annoying presence amid the power struggles of large forces, becomes a target for removal, and a phone call to President Gyeongshin of the Republic of Korea (Kim Hae-sook) that says "Seomunju, take care of that woman" adds an ominous tension. Amid this, Moonju and Sanho, who have been drawn into someone's scheme, are caught up in a scandal, and Moonju's appearance as if lost in thought foreshadows that the two's relationship will face another crisis.
Adding to this, Unhak (Yu Jae-myung)'s meaningful question to Sanho—"Was making that woman fall in love part of the plan?"—raises interest in how far the story of twists and reversals will race. Meanwhile, Hanna (Won Ji-an), enjoying a peaceful tea time with Ok-seon (Lee Mi-sook), holding an enormous secret in his hand, intensifies curiosity about what plan he might be hatching. In the midst of international tensions shadowed by the threat of war, Gyeongshin and Unhak's solemn expressions as if seeking a solution provoke curiosity about where the continuous cascade of major incidents will lead.
Recently, '북극성' has sparked anti-China controversy centered on Chinese internet users. The backlash came after a line in which Moonju says China favors war regarding the situation on the Korean Peninsula. As a result, allegations emerged that Jeon Ji-hyun faced a boycott by the Chinese advertising industry, moving her from a Hallyu star to being ostracized. Ironically, this also proved the show's popularity and buzz in China, with widespread pirated viewing of '북극성.' There is anticipation over whether episodes 6 and 7 of '북극성' can quiet these controversies and show a tonal shift for the series.
