Jeong Won-gwan (62), a member of the group Sobangcha, said he spent all of his peak-era income at the time.
On 23rd, he appeared on a YouTube channel and, when asked, "You really made so much money during the Sobangcha days," and "But doesn't the money you make when you're young not last that long?" he said, "What do you mean, last long. I just spent it day by day."
He also responded to the remark, "In your 20s back then, you performed at 11 night venues and earned an incredible amount from commercials to broadcasts—what did you do with all that? Where did it go?" by repeating, "Where did it go?" and saying, "Anyway, I spent it all. I spent without holding back."
Jeong said, "We invested a lot in ourselves. And whenever we went abroad, we paid out of our own pockets. Back then, the company didn't provide support," adding, "And back then, because we made a lot of money, we always paid. We studied a lot and spent a lot."
He continued, "Still, I'm grateful that I'm seeing those friends even now. And the memories were good. It may be my consolation, but I'm very grateful," adding, "People are assets."
He also mentioned the behind-the-scenes story of Sobangcha's entry into Japan. He said, "In 1996, a famous Japanese comedy duo sang 'Last night's story,' and it became a huge hit. Thanks to that, we were invited by Fuji TV," adding, "At that time, we stood on the same stage as Amuro Namie, who was really famous in Japan."
He also said that following Sobangcha, BoA gained popularity, adding, "As the generations continued from there, it became today's K-pop."
Debuting in 1987 as a member of Sobangcha, Jeong Won-gwan is now the CEO of the marketing company Guardians Company.
