Actor Kim Mi-kyung, appearing on Radio Star, reveals the behind-the-scenes story of being called the "official mom of stars." Having played the mother of more than 100 actors including Ryu Seung-beom, Uhm Jung-hwa and Seo Hyun-jin, she says, "I remain like an actual mother and daughter with Kim Tae-hee and Jang Na-ra after working together," and discloses her special ties.
The MBC show Radio Star, which airs Wednesday night on the 24th, will be presented as a "Will the prolific work continue~" special featuring Kim Mi-kyung, Jang So-yeon, Lee El and Im Soo-hyang.
After making her full-fledged TV debut with the drama Kaist, Kim Mi-kyung has won public love for warm and realistic mother characters in numerous popular dramas such as The Heirs, Another Miss Oh and Confession Couple. Notably, she appears as the mother of top stars such as Ryu Seung-beom, Uhm Jung-hwa, Jang Na-ra, Kim Tae-hee, Seo Hyun-jin and Park Min-young, and she shares on the show the special ties she built through that process.
Kim Mi-kyung cites Kim Tae-hee and Jang Na-ra as actresses who, after meeting as "daughters" through dramas, continued to live like family. She expresses affection, saying that Kim Tae-hee, with whom she formed a mother-daughter bond as characters in Hi Bye, Mama!, and Jang Na-ra, with whom she worked on Confession Couple and others, have continued to look after each other and stay in touch after filming as if they were "actual mother and daughter."
She also recounts an episode in which Park Min-young, with whom she paired as mother and daughter for the fifth time, called saying, "At this point it's fate," making everyone laugh.
Kim Mi-kyung reveals anecdotes related to nicknames like "K-mom" and "Hallyu mom." She recounts being surprised on her way to Tanzania when a foreigner at the Ethiopian airport, a layover, saw her and shouted, "Mom!" As K-dramas gained worldwide popularity and became memes on social media to the point people call her "mom," foreigners who recognized Kim Mi-kyung abroad called her "mom."
Her surprising drawing skills are also revealed. She personally drew caricatures of the four MCs as gifts, and when Kim Gu-ra noticed that each was rendered in a distinctly different style and praised, "Even the drawings are so different — she's really talented," it raised curiosity.
