Band FT Island's Lee Hong-gi has been cast in the musical "Sugar."
"Sugar" is based on the classic comedy film "Some Like It Hot," which has been loved around the world. Set in the 1929 Prohibition era, it cheerfully depicts the chaotic happenings that ensue when two jazz musicians accidentally witness a gang murder and, to save their lives, disguise themselves as women and secretly join an all-female band.
In the play, Lee Hong-gi plays Joe (Josephine), a romantic saxophonist who cross-dresses to survive. He is expected to show Joe's complex traits—sharp intelligence and a delightfully unexpected charm—with deeply layered acting.
So far, Lee Hong-gi has demonstrated outstanding vocal and acting skills in numerous productions such as the musicals The Days, I Loved You, Return, Jack the Ripper, Mata Hari, Harlan County, and Your Lie in April, and through "Sugar" he is expected to capture audiences' hearts with an even broader acting spectrum and solid vocals.
The musical "Sugar," featuring Lee Hong-gi, will run at the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Art Center Grand Theater from Dec. 12 to Feb. 22, 2026.
