"Baseball Queen" has made a surprise recruitment of legendary athletes who led Korea's handball, judo and swimming scenes: Kim On-a, Kim Seong-yeon and Jung Yoo-in.
They will join the roster of Channel A's new sports variety show "Baseball Queen," which premieres in November, and will work as one team with Director General Park Se-ri and manager Choo Shin-soo.
"Baseball Queen" is a sports variety program in which "legendary female athletes" from different sports challenge the unfamiliar stage of "baseball." Shin Jae-ho, the producer who directed Channel A's franchise program "Steel Troops W," and writer Kang Sook-kyung, who worked on "Steel Troops W" and "Physical 100" seasons 1 and 2, have teamed up again to raise expectations. Centered on Director General Park Se-ri, manager Choo Shin-soo and coaches Lee Dae-hyung and Yoon Seok-min, recently confirmed signees include Kim Min-ji, the "Karina of track and field," and Shin Su-ji, the "goddess of rhythmic gymnastics."
Kim On-a, who joined this time, is a handball ace who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and consecutive gold medals at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games. Known for her fast velocity and control, she was early on marked for the "pitcher" role. Kim Seong-yeon, a judo gold medalist at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, was chosen as the "third baseman" who handles strong hits from right-handed batters with agile reflexes and strength, foreshadowing her role as a "defensive genius." Finally, Jung Yoo-in, the "face of Korean swimming" who won multiple gold medals in domestic competitions, is expected to play as a "power hitter" outfielder, leveraging her innate shoulder strength as a slugger.
Above all, the three were personally recruited by Director General Park Se-ri, who is said to have selected Kim On-a, Kim Seong-yeon and Jung Yoo-in without hesitation based on her broad knowledge and understanding of female athletes, which has raised even greater expectations.
