S.Coups X Mingyu uploaded a highlight medley video of their first mini album "HYPE VIBES" to SEVENTEEN's official social media on the 22nd. Whereas the previously released dance challenge included portions of the title track's audio and choreography, this video lets listeners preview the melodies and lyrics of all the tracks.
The most attention is focused on the title track "5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman) (feat. Lay Bankz)." This song interpolates Roy Orbison's hit "Oh, Pretty Woman" (a technique that replays or re-records specific elements of existing music) and adds lively disco to a familiar melody, creating a festive mood.
Direct lyrics like "She on fire (she is so charming)" and "So spicy (so thrilling)" show the honest attitudes of two men attracted to someone who strongly draws them in. The video that plays the title track is also playful. Both S.Coups, who leaves excited after receiving a message, and Mingyu, who waits for a reply, receive a coy reply of "let's meet next time," and the twist provokes laughter like a romantic comedy film.
The album tracks express colorful everyday moments through various musical genres. The first track, "Fiesta," is a hip-hop song that contrasts heavy bass with a lively flute sound and a kitschy talk box. The lyric "I can't even capture my dance with my phone" reveals their confident swagger. "Worth it," featuring weighty 808 bass and standout synth lines, conveys the attraction and excitement in a special relationship known only to the two, delivered hot and intense.
Added to this are "For you," an easy-listening pop song that conveys the message "anyone can be our friend," "Young again," which captures youth that will never return with rock sounds, and the explosive EDM "Earth," driven by grand hyper synths, heightening anticipation for the rich array of genres S.Coups X Mingyu will present.
Like the video title "HYPE VIBES FLOW," the structure that captures various everyday moments in an organic flow also draws attention. From early morning jogging to midday driving, sunset swimming, and a late-night heated party, S.Coups X Mingyu's "now" freely intersects. Listeners can also pick tracks that suit their situations to empathize with and immerse themselves in the music.
S.Coups X Mingyu will release the first mini album "HYPE VIBES" at 6 p.m. on the 29th. The two participated in writing and composing all tracks, including "5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman) (feat. Lay Bankz)," filling the new record with their tastes and sensibilities. The title track challenge has received explosive responses, approaching 100 million views four days after its release.
They are scheduled to appear on TEO's web variety show Salong Drip 2, which will be released today (the 23rd) at 6 p.m., where they will showcase their wit. According to HYBE (chairman Bang Si-hyuk) music group's label Pledis Entertainment, a popup to commemorate the new release will also be held from the 30th on the sixth floor of Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul.
