Actor Son Ye-jin revealed an honest love story, from her first meeting with her husband Hyun Bin to the small happinesses after marriage.
On the 21st, on the YouTube channel "Yojung Jae-hyung," Son Ye-jin looked back on past works with Jung Jae-hyung and recalled her connection with Hyun Bin. When Jung Jae-hyung asked, "After you got to Negotiation, that was when you first met your husband, right?" Son Ye-jin replied, "Yes," and asked back, "We met again through Crash Landing on You. Did you watch it?" Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin first met through the film Negotiation and developed into a couple through the drama Crash Landing on You. The two married in 2022 and the following year welcomed a son, completing a "real-life happy ending."
Jung Jae-hyung said, "It's my biggest harvest during my COVID period. All my friends in France called me. 'Oh really? Is it that fun?' And really, after watching it, it was my biggest comfort. But I felt that. 'They seem to love each other,'" and Son Ye-jin joked, "That shows how well they acted. They made viewers that convinced." When Jung Jae-hyung joked, "And also because they were dating," Son Ye-jin confessed, "That work might be the most meaningful in my life in a way. Because I met my spouse."
When Jung Jae-hyung asked, "When did that spark first ignite? When you were caught in the tree?" Son Ye-jin drew a line, saying, "That's in the drama, isn't it? That doesn't exist. Strangely, actors separate work and personal life. Watching it, I don't think, 'Ri Jeong-hyeok is cool.' I just think that character is cool."
When Jung Jae-hyung asked again, "When was it? After everything ended?" Son Ye-jin said, "While doing Negotiation, we were the same age, debuted around the same time, both the youngest daughter and youngest son, parents the same age. From debut through all the things we experienced as leads until now, there were so many things that were really relatable. You know how you know things without saying them? Because we've been through them. So I felt very comfortable during Negotiation."
Son Ye-jin added, "I felt comfortable, but actually we didn't meet that often. One was below and one was above, and the filming period was naturally short, so while doing fan greetings we often talked on the bus. Basically I thought this person is a very good person. That's not easy, right? That appearance during filming made me think, 'This person doesn't really put on a front,' 'This person is just as they are.' I liked that."
When Jung Jae-hyung persistently asked, "So when was it in the drama? Around what episode did you fall?" Son Ye-jin said, "There isn't a moment like that. It built up gradually and my fondness grew."
When Jung Jae-hyung asked, "Where did Hyun Bin say he fell for you?" Son Ye-jin honestly said, "He might not have fallen," drawing laughter. She continued, "It was really funny the other day. When we're both busy there isn't much time to eat, so when we finally ate together after a long time we asked, 'We must have loved each other, right?' Because the child becomes the center of everything. The child's love really can't be compared. A lover, a spouse, a husband. So when we were dating or in the early days of marriage, I always looked up recipes and tried every dish on YouTube. But after that I haven't eaten many of those. I made some leftover 육전 for the baby and gave it, saying, 'Honey, eat this,' and he said, 'I don't know how many years it's been since I last had yukjeon.' If I give him leftover soup, he asks, 'How many times have I eaten kongbap?'"
Still, Son Ye-jin said, "Fortunately, and I'm very thankful, couples actually fight over things like that. Fortunately my husband might be hurt inside, but he doesn't show it outwardly and accepts it as natural." She added with pride, "My husband's biggest strength is that he doesn't tell me, 'I wish you would do this for me,' or 'I wish you wouldn't do that.' He's kind."
When Jung Jae-hyung said, "Everything about the path the actor Son Ye-jin has walked is in that," Son Ye-jin agreed, "That's right. There's comedy and sorrow, and though there wasn't action, I think so." She added, "Crash Landing on You brought a lot of overseas fans. It received so much popular love. Afterwards it did well and I received many letters from overseas, from Canada, Australia, Brazil, countries we're not used to," expressing gratitude.
Finally, Son Ye-jin said, "I'm just so happy these days. I feel like I'm experiencing this everyday happiness for the first time in my life. Because of the child. Just going to the playground with the child and my husband is itself so happy. Just the three of us sitting and eating together is so happy, and when I go to the playground with the child there's times when just the two of us use the playground equipment. I feel like I'm experiencing perfect, fulfilling happiness for the first time in my life. I really hope it stays like this."
She continued, "I found a goal. Before, while working I always thought, 'This work has to do well.' But even when a work did well, I wasn't necessarily happy. It was just a sense of responsibility. And then the next work had to do better because this one did well, always climbing the stairs like that. Now I can rest a bit. Life is only once, so why did I lock myself up and constrict my 20s and 30s, living in pain doing what I wanted?" she confessed.
When Jung Jae-hyung said, "That pain made you who you are now," Son Ye-jin nodded, "That's right. If I had kept swinging on that swing I wouldn't have felt it." She continued, "Now I feel, 'Wow, this is really happiness.' But it's really all small things, isn't it? Those small happinesses can't be compared to anything. I hope everyone finds and creates that happiness. I hope they come to know it."
