The group KickFlip delivers thrills to K-pop fans with fresh youth's first-love songs.
KickFlip held a showcase on the morning of the 22nd at YES24 Live Hall in Gwangjin District, Seoul to commemorate the release of their third mini album My First Flip and talked about the new album.
KickFlip, who announced a comeback about four months after releasing their second mini album Kick Out, Flip Now! in May,
KickFlip's new release My First Flip is an album that tells the story of a slightly faltering first love. Although it didn't happen, KickFlip's still-pleasant first love is expected to raise fans' excitement levels.
The new album includes a total of seven tracks: the title track "The first song I sing," "Band-Aid," "Singularity," "Again, here," "Gas On It," "404: Not Found," and "It's a secret that I had a nightmare," and the members are credited on all tracks, showcasing their musical abilities.
Donghyun, who participated in writing and composing the title track, said, "After participating in the title track of the second album, I also participated in the title track of the third album, and it wasn't something I made alone but with excellent composers and producers, so we were able to make a better song. I learned a lot. I closed my eyes and listened to the song and felt overwhelmed, and I wanted to show it to the hyungs quickly, and they liked it so much that I was happy."
Minje, who participated in the album track "Band-Aid," added, "I participated in the pre-release track "Band-Aid" through a very good opportunity, and as I participated in composing for the first time I had a good experience and was able to take one step closer to the musical world. My satisfaction was a 10 out of 10."
The title track "The first song I sing" is an uptempo dance song based on pop-punk that blends powerful synth sounds and guitar riffs. It expresses the moment of confessing with a pounding heart and conveys the feelings of fresh first love with KickFlip's energy.
Ju-wang said, "While working on the choreography, the song and the stage, I wanted to show fans a fluttering feeling, so I practiced smiling and tried to express a happy vibe."
KJ said, "When I first heard the song, I felt like I became the main character of a youth manga. I was that immersed and thought it was a great song."
Also, member Amaru, who paused activities due to psychological anxiety symptoms, is absent from this album's promotions. Donghyun said, "It is truly regrettable that I cannot promote the third album with hyung Amaru. We are just waiting for hyung Amaru to return in good health. The big void left by hyung Amaru, the six of us will try to fill by promoting energetically and working hard."
Since debuting in January, KickFlip has shown the presence of a global rookie while drawing a steady growth curve, and with outstanding live skills and performance they stood out at major global festivals this summer such as Lollapalooza Chicago, Summer Sonic 2025 Tokyo and Osaka, 2025 TIMA, and Summer Sonic Bangkok 2025, demonstrating their role as next-generation stage masters.
Donghwa said, "I think the area where I have grown more on this album is live ability. I am happy that the results came out well after preparing hard. I attended many festivals and gained good experience," and Minje said, "I am grateful to have had the opportunity to stand on large stages through various festivals, and communicating with fans from various countries, I think the biggest growth is that we enjoy ourselves more on stage."
Asked whether he received advice from JYP chief Park Jin-Young, Gyehun answered, "Producer Park Jin-Young said that while this album is of course important, it is more important to identify KickFlip's strengths and develop them." Donghwa expressed gratitude, saying, "I filmed a challenge with NiziU's Maiya senior and she said she really liked this title track and that it's a catchy song that makes you want to keep dancing."
Finally, KickFlip said, "Our goal for this album is to be No. 1 on music shows. Our strength, I think, is live performance. I think our advantage is being able to present that live as a bright, energetic stage," adding, "Through this third album we want to earn the titles of 'stage hotspot' and 'album hotspot' that make people want to keep watching the stage."
Meanwhile, KickFlip will release the new album My First Flip and the title track "The first song I sing" at 6 p.m. that day.
