Actor Kang Kyung-hun added viewing appeal with a diverse transformation in the 100-episode daily drama.
Kang Kyung-hun gave a passionate performance as Kang Mi-ran in the KBS2 daily drama Queen's House (writer Kim Min-joo, directors Hong Eun-mi and Hong Seok-gu), which concluded on the 19th.
Queen's House is a revenge drama about a woman who believed she had a perfect life but has her life stolen and then fights to reclaim it. Director Hong Seok-gu, who showed delicate directing in many works such as Beauty and the Pure-Hearted Man, Oh! Samkwang Villa! and My Only One, and director Hong Eun-mi, who delivered stylish direction in Beauty and the Pure-Hearted Man, Pure-Hearted Boxer and School 2021, joined forces. In addition, writer Kim Min-joo, who led a revival of daily dramas with Golden Mask, Tomorrow Is Sunny and Shine, Eun-soo, once again offered viewers intense immersion, and the series ended with its 100th episode broadcast on the 19th.
Queen's House, which received much love and recorded a peak rating of 11.9% (episode 97), featured Kang Kyung-hun in a passionate performance as YL Group executive Kang Mi-ran. She drove the plot compellingly by clashing with her niece Kang Jae-in (Ham Eun-jung) over an unexpected incident. In the latter half, she regretted her past choices and transformed into an ally, giving strong momentum to the satisfying developments and leading to a happy ending.
After successfully completing the 100 episodes, Kang Kyung-hun said, "Watching the broadcast end, I feel a sense of regret, but that's because it was so fun and received so much love. I'm very grateful for all the love, and with that energy I worked even harder and enjoyed the filming."
On why Queen's House received so much love, Kang Kyung-hun said, "I think the fast pace and the constant stream of incidents sparked interest. Queen's House required more energy than other daily dramas, and because every character was alive, we had no choice but to focus and remained constantly tense. Since we worked so hard among ourselves, regardless of whether we did well or not, I think that energy was transmitted and viewers came to love it a lot."
Following her previous work Oasis, Kang Kyung-hun returned as a villain this time as well. In an earlier interview she said she worried that viewers might grow tired of her, but Kang Kyung-hun said, "Although she is a villain, she was somewhat different. It was my first time portraying a professional executive, and whereas previous villain roles had feminine traits, this time I could show aspects of a businessperson and a professional side, so I thought this was a different kind of villain."
Kang Kyung-hun said she considers acting a lifelong challenge. Although she encountered villain roles consecutively, she succeeded in varying them so they wouldn't become tiresome, gaining recognition for her presence and acting skills. Kang Kyung-hun said, "I try not to repeat the acting I've done before. I avoid reusing emotions or similar patterns of intonation, and while it's not entirely new, I try to get close to something new. It's a bit difficult, but I feel good that viewers of Queen's House seemed to notice."
