Director Park Chan-wook candidly expressed his feelings about not winning at the Venice Film Festival.
On the 21st, SBS' SBS 8 News aired an interview with director Park Chan-wook, who returned with the film No Other Choice.
Park Chan-wook was invited to the competition section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival with his new film No Other Choice, and after the festival premiere, major foreign media showered it with praise, raising expectations for awards, but unfortunately the awards did not materialize.
About this, director Park said frankly, "I had expectations. When you tally the reviews and scores of the journalists and critics at the time and rank them, it was always at the very top, so it would be a lie to say I didn't expect it."
After not winning, Park Chan-wook had said, "The audience reaction was better than any film I have made, so I already felt like I had received a big award," and regarding that he also said, "It was remarkably strange. It was the first time among my films. I couldn't believe it when I heard that everyone liked it without anyone disliking it, that there was a lot of laughter and even applause."
No Other Choice, which is set to open on the 24th, is already topping advance ticket sales and is expected to be popular. Director Park Chan-wook said, "Korean movie theaters have lost a lot of customers. Since the pandemic. The audiences who left their homes haven't returned. In that situation, there is a widespread perception that this film has a big responsibility, so I feel pressured, but I hope my film plays a role in persuading audiences to come back."
