'Gourmet Heo Young-man's Baekban Journey' Tae Jin-ah missed the late Song Dae-gwan.
On the 21st broadcast of TV Chosun's 'Gourmet Heo Young-man's Baekban Journey' (hereafter 'Baekban Journey'), Tae Jin-ah appeared and set off with Heo Young-man for Seocheon County, Chungcheongnam-do.
Singer Tae Jin-ah, in his 53rd year, said in response to the question "When did you start dreaming of becoming a singer?", "I couldn't sing well, but I liked singing. After I came up to Seoul I started with Chinese restaurant deliveries, selling newspapers, shining shoes, working at a car wash, and I did 37 different part-time jobs," he said.
Then, while working at a Japanese restaurant, he met composer Seo Seung-il. Tae Jin-ah recalled, "I would unconsciously sing while serving customers. One person, while eating, said, 'Your voice is unique. I'll give you a business card, so sing once,'" he recalled.
He continued, "Seo Seung-il is the composer of my song 'Samogok.' When I said my name was Jo Bang-heon, he said the name sounded too rural and suggested making it cooler. He took 'Tae' from Tae Hyeon-sil, 'Jin' from Nam Jin, and 'A' from Na Hoon-a to create Tae Jin-ah. He named me after the era's top stars," he explained.
Tae Jin-ah also mentioned innate singers Lee Mi-ja, Na Hoon-a and Cho Yong-pil and said, "I am an acquired singer." When asked about Song Dae-gwan, Tae Jin-ah said, "Senior Song Dae-gwan is neither acquired nor innate but in the middle," and added, "Whenever I talk about Senior Song Dae-gwan, I miss him," expressing his longing.
Tae Jin's eternal companion, the late Song Dae-gwan, passed away in February. Tae Jin-ah said, "In my case, I'll only forget Senior Song Dae-gwan after I die. He's always in my heart." When Heo Young-man comforted him by saying, "He went ahead and saved you a good spot," Tae Jin-ah laughed and said, "I already told him. I told him to save me a good spot."
