Lim Yoon-a's (SME) magnetic performance draws viewers further into Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.
Lim Yoon-a plays Yeon Ji-young, a French chef who time slips to the past at the height of her career and meets Wang I-heon (Lee Chae-min), the worst tyrant and a person with absolute taste, in the tvN weekend drama Bon Appetit, Your Majesty (directed by Jang Tae-yu, written by fGRD, planned by Studio Dragon, produced by Filmgrida, Jung Universe), and has been earning weekly praise for her three-dimensional passionate performance.
In the 9th episode, after the second contest also ended in a draw, Yeon Ji-young moved viewers by showing her desire to protect the dedication of the royal kitchen cooks to the end and her firm will not to bow to the Ming even as I-heon, worried, urged her to stop the contest.
In the long-awaited third contest, Yeon Ji-young barely accepted the pressure cooker lid that Jang Chun-saeng (Go Chang-seok) had brought and completed a black-bone ginseng chicken soup, perfectly capturing the palates of I-heon and Woo-gon (Kim Hyung-mook). When Ming royal cook Gong Mun-rye (Park In-soo) could not taste the food because of illness, she offered a special dish saying she only hoped they would be happy regardless of win or loss, moving Gong Mun-rye and the Ming cooks and ultimately leading the royal kitchen team to victory, creating a deep resonance.
After Woo-gon's explosive remark that he would take her as a palace woman and I-heon's furious headbutt put Yeon Ji-young in a hair-trigger situation, she narrowly escaped the crisis thanks to the intervention of Queen Dowager Inju (Seo Yi-sook), but when the chicken roasted whole that she sincerely presented to Prince Jinmyeong (Kim Kang-yoon) became entangled in the plots of Gang Mok-ju (Kang Han-na) and Prince Je-san (Choi Gwi-hwa), she was shockingly accused and punished, ending on a cliffhanger that raised curiosity about the next developments.
In the process, Lim Yoon-a conveyed Yeon Ji-young's unbroken will through confident expressions and a steady demeanor, clearly revealing the character's charm and strength; from the tense moments when the pressure cooker lid had not arrived and anxiety and impatience intersected to the moment she conveyed warm sincerity to the rival nation's cook, she drew the role with flexible, high-density acting that fully immersed viewers in the character's narrative.
Meanwhile, Lim Yoon-a's standout performance in Bon Appetit, Your Majesty can be seen every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 p.m. on tvN.
