Jeong Won-gwan of Sobangcha revealed the secret to marrying a wife 17 years his junior.
On the 19th, on the YouTube channel "Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life," Sobangcha member Jeong Won-gwan appeared and shared various stories from the group's debut days to his marriage.
In 2013, after marrying a beautiful wife 17 years his junior, Jeong Won-gwan said, "My wife started gaslighting me in detail, saying "Jeong Won-gwan is here~" and began to prepare while continuously talking. My wife is an only child, so from her perspective she must have worried a lot about how to persuade her family," he said.
Jeong Won-gwan said that his entire family lives in Australia, "During Lunar New Year or holidays we eat and drink alone. Now only my older brother and his wife and my wife and I live in Seoul, and four generations live in Australia. When I go to Sydney, Australia, it feels full. They are a huge family," he said.
About his first meeting with his wife, he said, "A close acquaintance who is a professor asked me to meet briefly in Apgujeong-dong. He said he would bring one of his students, and that student turned out to be my wife. Her maternal family had all passed away. She was the student of my close younger sibling. We met at a patbingsu shop and moved to another place to have a drink. We drank at a makgeolli bar, and I think we drank all the makgeolli on the menu," adding, "When we parted ways, using an old trick, I left my cellphone in my wife's bag and left. I asked, 'You left your phone—how should I contact you?' She answered, and we had a meal. I had feelings from the first meeting."
He continued, "My wife didn't really know what Sobangcha was. Even if she knew a little, she had seen us when she was young so she didn't know the songs well. Because of the age gap, people around us strongly opposed it, but my wife did a lot of convincing," he confessed.
After marriage, holding his two daughters in his arms, Jeong Won-gwan said, "When I watch the kids I have no time to worry. I had children late, and selfishly I feel I made a great choice in marrying; you feel like you're living life twice. I planned to live and die a bachelor, but I thank God. Getting married changed my momentum, and it changed my life and thoughts. Everything changed because of my children and my wife," he admitted.
